Urinal cameras with automated penis shaker arms that automatically measure the male population by penis size and organize them in alphabetical order.

    Alright roll call!

WHY would anyone, in this day and age, volunteer to become a fascist bootlicking piece of shit member of the military? I can’t respect anyone who is ok with this.

A lot of these people were in the military before the second Trump admin made it obvious that they’re going to have to work for an actual fascist dictatorship.

Secondly, for a lot of young people, the G.I Bill is the only real way to afford an education. You know that whole student debt issue that is crippling people financially for decades? Joining the military is a way to bypass that.

The uncomfortable pill is that at any point in the last many decades (ie: after abolishment of the draft) there was no good reason to join. WMDs? Known lie. Vietnam and not drafted? Known lie. (Tonkin was a lie)

That GI bill part is so very true and sad. It’s on purpose, of course. Expensive college and poor people means … more fodder.

I would posit only portions of our behavior in ww1 and ww2 were honorable. Supporting the creation of zionist colonialism and nuking a couple cities is … not honorable. Also, I tried to say it and it may have come across odd but those drafted are prisoners compared to those who volunteered. They are not the same.

Yeah, true, we definitely did some fucked up shit in the world wars, but at least I can respect the people who joined.

Also, full sympathy to those who were drafted. I should have put more emphasis on “signed up”

Plus, it’s not like you can just join the military and quit when you don’t like how things are going. Unless things have changed radically, when you enlist you’re signing up for 3,6 or even 8 years of service with very little recourse for getting out (without messing up your career and maybe even your life).

I’m sure for a lot of people working in the military is just a job. It’s a luxury to choose jobs based on personal politics and a lot of people can’t afford that now.

I just read that they were hiring thousands of new ICE agents to round up illegals. Who do you think is going to sign up for that duty? And get paid for it, too? Not the best and brightest, we know that.

              Whoa.

But there were also a handful of women ICE applicants and a lot of men of color. The deportation officer applicant pool was, I felt, shockingly diverse—one might say it looked like America.

People attempting to hide in the belly of the beast, perhaps? I wonder how that’s gonna work out.

Sadly a lot of US-born and raised Hispanics can be just as racist, if not more racist, against migrants and refugees as white Americans. In particular Mexicans and Chicanos (who represent a massive portion of Border Patrol cops) tend to not like each other.

I suspect many are just looking for a paycheck. ICE agents are slated to be pretty well paid from what I’ve read. We just handed over a historic amount of money to them as well, and even though I expect a large amount of institutional corruption, a significant percentage of it is going to go to personnel.

In addition to obscene salaries they’re likely robbing detainees of any cash and personal items they were carrying. No due process or criminal charges means that there’s pretty much no legal requirement to keep or return personal items like police normally do (TSA has been robbing travelers for years too) ICE can pretty much do what ever they want with it because the detainees aren’t able to complain or press charges.

So yeah, pretty lucrative. Gold is sky rocketing so lots of wedding rings and watches are headed to pawn shops. Nazis pretty much did the same during the holocaust.

I’ve reached a point where I refuse any longer to hold any reverence or respect for current military. Just like cops. The military cocktail worship of parades, holidays, and discounts everywhere needs to go away.

How about discounts for teachers, or road workers, or social workers.

For me, it’s a complete distaste for people that keep trying to slowly soft-boot a “military class” inside our society, by way of all the things you mention. The Romans had one of those; no thanks. Yes, let’s throw more goodwill and financial support to people taking care of our kids and infrastructure instead.

No shit. The solution is easy too. Make every bathroom non-gendered with ceiling to floor walls and doors on the stalls and cameras in the washing up area. Add a guard or attendant if you feel like you have to.

Or, you know, make all your bathrooms gender neutral. Problem solved, if there was a problem to begin with. There never was a problem though, it’s all just made up and blown up by the likes of fox News which, somehow, is still legally broadcasting their lies over and over to brainwash the US populace.

are you kidding our cheap corporations won’t even make the cheap shitty stall walls in the toilets we do get go down to the floor and they usually have gaps you can see through. They don’t make any money on the bathrooms so they aren’t going to spend an extra dime to help.

Not to mention nobody can afford a house so when you do get bathrooms like you’re describing homeless people move into them. I’m not blaming them either.

I wish we could have nice things like that but i can’t see it happening here.

The place I worked at in the UK remodeled all their bathrooms to be a hallway with doors to multiple single self contained unisex toilets, each with its own basin. Bathrooms were generally cleaner, more accessible and more available. No urinals, but urinals are gross anyway so no big loss.

I was really pleased when places here in Canada started doing this. A close family member is trans, and I really felt their pain when going to a public toilet where we had to stand in a line for men or for women. That stuff can make every bathroom visit fraught, especially with the expectation that men will stand next to each other to pee. I even hate that as a cis man. Far better for everyone to form one line with no questions asked and have a private stall.

Well, instead of regulating people’s bodies they could regulate bathroom standards that give people some dignity.

      • While that is ideal, there’s an even easier solution: let trans people shit in whichever bathroom they prefer and direct that energy towards stopping known sexual abusers, like clergy and most Republicans

The Daily Show has a nice piece on this anti-trans bullshit in the 'murican military.

I’m getting sick and tired of all this and i’m in the group that it’s cool to dogpile on du jour, just make all bathrooms mixed already: sinks up front, cubicles in the middle with floor to ceiling doors, urinals at the back. There, done.
As a bonus a lot more people will wash their hands.
Motels might lose some money though.

It doesn’t. But in true bully fashion, they only feel better about themselves by making someone else’s life worse and they don’t have to expend any effort or sacrifice making their own life objectively better.
