It’s pathetic what Trump and his band of goons are doing to America.

I almost moved to the US at one point. It’s never been perfect but I grew up seeing it as a force that did bring about a lot of good in the world.

    This is pathetic.

“Not in the public interest,” that line is going to get squeezed for all its worth.

“[This] appears to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play into the narrative that this was somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person,” Carr said. “What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest. When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Welcome to your fascist state, ladies and gentlemen. If you don’t kiss the ring and grease the palms, then you’re out.

Revoke their broadcast license, to make it impossible for them to be on the air with their distributors.

Generally productions are a multi-stage process with several companies involved.

Unless everyone works together, from content creation all the way down to distribution, some part of the chain will comply with the federal government. They unfortunately don’t need to do anything physical - the show is already dependent on several entities.

Guys, the FCC content rules only apply to Broadcast stations, like ABC. Fox News is cable. Its content is not regulated by the FCC at all. They don’t have jurisdiction.

If Fox News has straight-face lied to its viewers ONLY 25 times a day for the past 29 years, that’s 264,625 actual lies, not jokes.

So after Fox publicly and explicitly apologizes 264,625 times for each of its egregious lies, we can then entertain the idea of apologizing for delivering truth in the form of a joke on a comedy show.

That’s what I thought when I saw what Dowd said that got him fired. We have lawsuits and threats against the press. We have an armed force pulling people off street. We have a court that doesn’t believe in the Constitution. And yet people seem to keep thinking the elections next year will be able to fix this.

          What Dowd said

“And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,” Dowd said. “And I think that is the environment we are in.”

He added, “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

The right-wing mediasphere is in a frenzy equating anyone talking bad about Kirk with ‘supporting political violence’. They’re doxing people, calling their jobs to get them fired, etc.

This is just more of the same kind of bullying.

You can say that we need to kill homeless people on Fox News but you can’t claim that Republicans are pro-violence without being doxxed, harassed and canceled.

He didn’t say anything negative about Kirk… he implied that the right is trying to paint the killer as “anything but MAGA”

Their cognitive dissonance is maddening. I don’t know if they don’t see it, or if they are deliberately being obtuse assholes.

The people at the bottom don’t see it because their media stream is wholly owned by the elites. The elites don’t care about seeming like hypocrites as long as they can grab power and use it to enrich themselves or enact their fascist policies.

I mean, the FCC does not have any power over the content of cable television stations like Fox News. Not that they would do anything if they could, the hypocrites, but still. ABC is a Broadcast station, the content of which is in the FCC’s purview, so it’s not exactly apples to apples. Doesn’t mean it’s not partisan reactionary bullshit.
