Ah yes, a random tweet quoting an automatic bullshit bot.
I bet Grok doesn’t even have a clue about Twitter policies and is just making shit up
Exactly, I don’t know why people haven’t understood that yet, Grok is just another LLM, it doesn’t know shit, it doesn’t understand shit, it just regurgitates words from the data it’s been trained on and it certainly isn’t an insider at Shitter.
Stop asking Grok what the fuck Elon is doing
IT
DOESN’T
KNOW
The point is that LLMs are naturally biased but they’re also explicitly biased by the people training them. Knowing what biases are being programmed into these LLMs by their owners is a glimpse into their agenda.
If you want to read more on the subject these are referred to as “system prompts” and you can read about various “system prompt leaks” that can include such things as explicitly right wing walking points.
Grok may very well have such nuggets in its system prompt.
It should probably make stuff up that doesn’t make it’s boss look bad.
Grok is a laughing stock in LLM world.
-
It’s worse than Gemini, Claude, so… why use it over API?
-
It’s not open source or even open weights. Elon is straight up lying when he claims it is.
-
It’s more expensive and generally more censored than great open weights models. Its even straight up worse than the remarkable Deepseek v3.
-
It has no niche. It’s not long context, it’s slopped from training on other models, it’s not fast, it has seemingly no architectural advantages (not that they publish anything about it,) it’s not particularly good at prose or code completion or answering grounded in facts (hence the subject of the OP) or anything.
-
Elon has one of the most inefficiently used H100 hoards on the planet, while other labs are making good models without being billionaires or scorching the Earth.
-
Elon is an asshole, and I don’t want anything to do with him.
-
Even for “business use,” simply associating with X makes you radioactive.
The only ostensible reason I can think of to use Grok is ignorance, or to lick the boots of Musk/Trump. It’s not good, it’s not ‘based,’ it’s just a shitty, expensive product hyped to the moon and “better some day.” Surprise, surprise…
Anyway, the point is Elon doesn’t care if Grok makes him look bad. Reality is irrelevant, he can hype the snot out of it and have hordes come running to bow in deference.
-
why post an insubstantiated claim instead of just screenshotting the grok response? I want to believe this but it seems completely made up
What more does the Grok response provide? The response itself is made up. Ask the LLM the same question 5 times and you will get 5 different answers.
It provides evidence of the claim.
I understand that a simple first-hand account doesn’t require evidence, but this isn’t even that. The post doesn’t say “I asked Grok this and this is what it said”, it’s literally “people” who supposedly asked it and supposedly got answers like that. Who? How many? What kind of responses exactly?
It combines lack of evidence/sources with hearsay, like what even is information worth at that point.
Why the fuck is anyone still using Twitter
The thing about a cult is that it doesn’t need you in particular. It needs people. Ideally, idiots. So it doesn’t matter that a lot of people are leaving/will leave Twitter. The idiots will remain, and the platform will serve its purpose.
Many answered you already but i’m gonna provide you with another piece of the puzzle. Why the fuck there always multiple threads about elon musk on lemmy frontpage? Propaganda and marketing runs deep.
I set up a filter to block any post title with “Elon Musk” but stuff like this will still get through though. Lemmy is obsessed with him.
Elon musk butt stuff… you are missing out!
few other platforms have ad much diversity in their hatred and negativity, community notes are funny, watching things slowly get worse is also interesting.
That misspelling kinda fits.
Or even talking about shit like this? Musk is living rent free in a lot of people’s heads. The way to make him irrelevant is to treat him as such. Making a fuss about everything he says, gives him undue importance.
To be fair, he’s commanding a ton of influence among policy makers, so it’s pretty critical to not completely ignore the bullshit he’s up to.
Also because people like Musk are further empowered when no one is looking. I’m as tired of hearing about him as anyone but will keep reading until he’s in prison, dead, or at least not the de facto president of the united states.
Yeah but are you not considering the thousands of other ideologues that work in the shadows everyday? Putting one on blast doesn’t solve anything. People have yet to grasp that the public forum can’t solve a multitude of problems all at once. If you put something in the public forum you should expect nothing to happen unless there is a system already in place to deal with it. What we should spend time talking about is solutions that can cascade into other solutions. Systems that can make other systems. We need to categorize our problems and put them in a queue to be reconciled. What have now is people just wildly jumping from one problem to the next as if identifying that problem was the most important thing and solving it is secondary.
It’s like when you watch Jon Oliver. It’s a good show but at the end of the episode all I have is another insurmountable problem I now recognize and I file that away with every other insurmountable problem Jon has shed light on.
It’s one of those things where, while I’m sick of hearing about his bullshit, I need to know if he does something that directly affects me. E.g. if he started doing a similar thing in my country as the stuff he’s trying with Britain at the moment then I’d write to a couple of representatives to let them know they’ll lose mine and many other votes if they side with the dopey billionaire muppet.
So we should just not talk about his atrocities? Should we stay silent about the war in Gaza too? Because god forbid that Israeli war criminal is “living in my head rent-free”!
Musk will very soon be part of the American government, so of course we should talk about his authoritarian behaviours.
mostly porn
Must be everyone living in the states that block Pornhub.
Politics, sports, musicians, celebrities, news …
Those are slow to move off if they are at all.
It’s a shame.
Because I’m not interested in trading one echo chamber for another. Also, sports and music.
Momentum.
The average person is really hard to move to a new platform. I saw this when Skype was the big thing for internet communication the Microsoft slowly made it worse and worse before it was barely a shadow of its former self.
Alternatives existed, many that were much better, but they were slightly harder to use or came along way after people were already set on Skype.
It wasn’t until discord that the internet shifted, but even discord has its problems.
Good write up, except Skype is a terrible example, because it never became worse. Arguably it’s better than any alternative, at least when it comes to screen sharing, audio quality, and file sharing. (Although I’d love to be wrong about this.)
United States law enforcement agencies have the ability to eavesdrop on Skype conversations and to have access to Skype users’ geographic locations. In many cases, a simple request for information is sufficient, with no court approval needed. This ability was deliberately added by Microsoft for law enforcement agencies around the world after they purchased Skype in 2011.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_security
Although I think Microsoft implemented end-to-end encryption for skype for single conversations at a time in 2018. Still, for seven years, microsoft was giving law enforcement every conversation they wanted.
That’s fascinating and quite shitty. Unfortunately there’s no other communication service with comparable performance when it comes to screen and file sharing, which is what I care about.
What momentum?
like it or not goverment official accounts, and official news accounts are things some people care about and there are few platforms that have as many as Twitter or Facebook /meta.
And FOMO. FOMO is super powerful. FOMO kept me on Reddit for way too long.
Fuck this fascist playbook he’s running.
We all saw the undeniable evidence that Twitter had suppressed anything not in line with the positions of the left. If “X” is now doing exactly the same thing regarding posts not conforming with positions of the right then it’s just more bullshit. What is the problem with treating every position equally? I understand censorship in regard to things like doxing, child porn, and calls for violence…but everything else should be allowed and let users decide for themselves. Haven’t we had enough of being “told” what to think.
“Hey guys, I think vaccines cause autism but THE LEFT won’t let me spread my bullshit online!
Isn’t that the same thing as platforming actual Nazis???”
You totally missed the point. If someone posted that and if you were capable of thinking for yourself you would research it on your own. And you would then be able to post a link supporting your position. Do you want to possibly change the position of the person and others in the same mind set making the original post or do you just want to censor them. Censorship is what causes the divide. Both sides of an issue being posted causes people to think and hopefully come together.
Most people believe shit without checking. Even I forget to use my brain frequently. I used to believe in the market place of ideas, but that got millions dead of COVID and fascists winning on platforms they completely lied about, so I don’t think the market works.
“Research it on my own”? By doing what? Running clinical trials? We have experts as a society for a reason.
You’re probably the kind of person who thinks it’s a massive government overreach that you’re forced to wear a seatbelt.
You don’t need to be a scientist to research medical things. There are multiple sources that will provide information that you can evaluate for yourself
The unfortunate reality is that most people don’t have the skills required to critically read scientific literature.
It takes time to search terms and figure out what it really being said. But I’d rather take the time then to live in a hive mind that TELLS me what to think
Perhaps you should start your own research here to understand why that doesn’t actually work the way you seem to think it does : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
But then do you ignore that research when the result is different than you expected? Like this one?
Or will you not claim exactly the opposite of what the article you provided shows when the topic comes up the next time around?
And then what? At the end of the day, unless you’re running the experiments yourself, you’re still putting your trust in another group of experts. Either you trust that they really did what they said they did and saw what they said they saw, or you trust another group to draw the correct conclusions from a collection of studies and what they know about the topic.
Your request for tag “conservative moron” has been approved!
We all saw the undeniable evidence that Twitter had suppressed anything not in line with the positions of the left.
The green line is (at least) the one you need.
Ha ha lol you’ve been schooled.
We all saw the undeniable evidence that Twitter had suppressed anything not in line with the positions of the left.
Called out. Posts this:
Did you mean this… https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/oct/22/twitter-admits-bias-in-algorithm-for-rightwing-politicians-and-news-outlets
But apparently doesn’t read past the headline.
Home feed promotes rightwing tweets over those from the left, internal research finds
The research found that in six out of seven countries, apart from Germany, tweets from rightwing politicians received more amplification from the algorithm than those from the left; right-leaning news organisations were more amplified than those on the left; and generally politicians’ tweets were more amplified by an algorithmic timeline than by the chronological timeline.
According to a 27-page research document, Twitter found a “statistically significant difference favouring the political right wing” in all the countries except Germany. Under the research, a value of 0% meant tweets reached the same number of users on the algorithm-tailored timeline as on its chronological counterpart, whereas a value of 100% meant tweets achieved double the reach. On this basis, the most powerful discrepancy between right and left was in Canada (Liberals 43%; Conservatives 167%), followed by the UK (Labour 112%; Conservatives 176%). Even excluding top government officials, the results were similar, the document said.
Love how some of his loudest critics are his own daughter and his own AI.
Elon is only a free speech absolutist in the sense that he’s absolutely free to censor speech he doesn’t like.
Free speech absolutism quickly got hijacked by the early far-right of the internet. From dumb idea of “we should let everyone say whatever they want, words are just words”, it evolved into the switcharoo of the far-right doxxing and harassing its opponents, accusing them of “intolerance”, but when their opponents did the same, doxxing and harassment suddenly became a bad thing that must not be tolerated by anyone. Even mere criticism of the right became akin to the most brutal actions committed by state actors.
Innuendo Studios, when talking about the “You go high, we go low” tactic of the alt-right, he used the example of packing the court. In reality, the tactic is probably as old as Adolf Hitler accusing others of censorship for not giving him a platform.
“Free speech”
AbolitionistAbsolutionistAbolitionist“You are free to agree with my speech”
Or you could do something proactive.
Aaaand the solution to this? Get the fuck off Twitter. I don’t know why people love to see blatant abuse of authority and are cool with that. Quit being chodes and supporting a chode.
I’ve always found the obsession with that pathetic platform a bit sad.
Suggestion the public is being manipulated
to me this sounds like they’re trying to cover something they’re doing up
Bullet ballot voting % increases, swing states using a database acquired through a “undecided voters” campaign, and a wireless internet service provider being used to send votes from remote locations.
Nothing to see here.
Edit - format fail, strikeout not working :(
Sorry conservatives, you are now woke too. You gave it your best.
legit simply turning around their shit and calling them woke drives them batty. it’s like the “weird” thing was at first except it enrages them even more. just keep doing it. call their culture wars “woke nonsense”. whatever it is just turn it back on them and watch them burst blood vessels.
Of course he does this after the election.
