The new take: “Epstein was a popular rich guy, everyone knew him and wished him well! It doesn’t mean they ‘knew’ him! Nobody knew what he and Ghislane were up to!”

But it doesn’t matter. The oligarchs don’t pay for their crimes. They don’t even get charged. Do you want to see them pay? I hear there’s a discount on pitchforks recently seeing as there’s nobody to work the fields.

No oppressors ever walked away peacefully at the request of the oppressed. Just sayin’

Not exactly “new”. The recognition that guilt by association is a fallacy and a hallmark of an undeveloped, irrational mentality has been around for a while. The unsound indulgence of biases such as confirmation bias & emotional reasoning is justly criticized.

If you want to discredit your position though, and make serious inquiry look bad so people can point at you & say

See? These people are irrational! How can we take them seriously?

then this is a great way to do it.

And if she did give a shit about covering for Bill in the past and did anything to meaningfully do that, then by all means, lock her up too.

This shouldn’t be political. I don’t care if there was a stupid slogan for that chanted by idiots, a broken clock can be right sometimes.

Those are political things. Those are things she should have been voted out of power for, not locked up for.

I was thinking more along the lines of the “helping cover up pedophilia and human trafficking” thing. That’s a crime worthy of prison time.

I’m no fan of Clinton, but rather a million times her than Trump. But the US clearly needs better candidates.

Certainly, she would have been a better president than Trump. But that’s damning with extremely faint praise. A rotten turnip would have been a better president than Trump.

I’ve long tried to tell Americans that they need to spend their effort on the party primaries, that’s the last chance for actual options to be considered. Once you get to the election itself the only thing left to evaluate is “which is the lesser evil?”

When the campaign started in 2015, I thought Clinton vs Bush would be the worst lineup ever. I had no idea then that an even worse one was possible.

I don’t know how Americans always manage to get the worst possible candidates winning their primaries.

Don’t worry, I want to go after the fascists. But I reject the assertion that making life worse for Americans is somehow more morally wrong than making life worse for Libyans. In fact, I will go so far as to say that if you are willing to hand wave away atrocities as “status quo shit” then it makes sense that fascism is where things end up.

Right? The time when there might have been some kind of large amount of people wanting to cover for him was maybe…2 and half decades ago? The guy isn’t in power, no one cares enough for any of that…

It’s mostly the butthurt cons that were spreading black helicopter nonsense and swapping copies of the Clinton Body Count over email back in the 90s that are still obsessed with Bill (and Hillary).

Frankly I love this, because now we get to watch the conservatives squirm.

Is Bill Clinton a pedo for associating with Epstein? Or are they going to walk back all of their statements and say Clinton did nothing wrong writing a sex trafficker a birthday card?

All the Democrats I know are fine with locking him up if evidence against him surfaces, but boy howdy is it gonna do a number on the conservatives in my life.

They really aren’t squirming. We have to stop letting the stupid algorithms and memes we subscribe to color our thinking about the reality of social divides.

The right broadly is happy as pigs in shit right now. They DO NOT CARE about Epstein or any of the other “scandals” broadly. They’re just happy their angry, orange Jesus is making the nasty, nasty liberals and trans kids cry. They wanted all of this, they don’t care about crime and law and consistency and leadership and the economy and policy. They just care about the narrative and the narrative they are hooked into right now is that the left broadly is screaming in rage and they LOVE IT.

There are some here and there who are really uncomfortable and it may be a wedge issue for them, but don’t get fooled by amplified minority voices on any topic.

The minority voices here are more important than you think. The hardcore MAGA base is not that big, and they need more mainstream conservatives to go along with it–the ones who say “I hate Trump, but Hillary/Biden/Kamala would be worse”. You start cleaving away pieces of MAGA, and it will fall apart as a political movement.

Fuckin’ great, lock his old ass up too.

Throwback, also, to the Lemmy fake-leftist who was pretending that back in the 1990s him and all his activist friends were super excited for Bill Clinton and all his leftist politics, and lecturing me about how far the Democratic Party has fallen since then. Fuckin’ what lol. I was around for it, literally 0 of us were as excited about Bill Clinton and his balanced budget as this guy was pretending that him and all the left were back then.

The good thing about both parties hating progressives is that no one circles the wagons to protect progressives.

Anthony Weiner was immediately persona non grata when his allegations came out.

Progressive perverts get no protection because both parties want them gone, so there’s no backlog.

Meanwhile, republicans and centrists alike participated in a culture of protecting reprehensible predators in order to hold on to power that might otherwise be vested in people who give a shit about the poor.

There is some credit to be given in that no one seems to be circling the wagons for clinton now, but he’s already served his purpose: 8 years of triangulating with the right.

Wonder how many centrists are sitting in awkward silence and how much of the “fine, lock clinton up too” sentiment is coming from progressives.

The same release also includes confirmation of the Trump “wonderful secret” note that he claimed was a hoax, and is currently suing the WSJ for billions for reporting on.

Wonder if he’ll withdraw the lawsuit, or whether the whole thing was just another “it’s not a bribe, it’s a settlement” scam.

Plus, the guy was way wrapped up in financing stuff, which just attracts other money-grubbing people anyway. Same with Harvey Weinstein, where they use the money and cloud of flies buzzing around them as the cover if they get caught. They use the ones that didn’t know about their crimes as protection. Fully disgusting, but such is the thrall of money I suppose.
