I’m genuinely curious, when in development do you think consciousness begins?

For you, does this have anything to do with human life being special or sacred, or having a soul?

I’m not looking to mock or provoke, I’m just curious because I’ve seen people place importance on the life or dna of the fetus being human or importance on when the brain forms, or when the heart starts beating. People have a wide variety of opinions on both when life starts and on when personhood starts, and the criteria they use for each. I think discussing these things objectively could help reduce internet arguments on the topic, but only if people have good faith discussion. I realize that is tough to do these days.

they don’t accept sources outside their local news and social circle where they accept everything as truthful and any outsider is automatically untrustworthy. I’ve run into someone utterly convinced that their local schools were forcing kids to become trans against thier will, because they heard it repeated by thier idiot republican social circle. No evidense required. Instead in thier mind burden of proof is on me for saying that’s ridiculous.

Even when they don’t wholeheartedly believe the lies they’ve been goven they will pretend to for fear of their social circle response.

if the pipes hadn’t been lead the water switch would not have triggered the issue. we had 3 contributing factors: old lead pipes, water source change, and people in charge that made a decision they should not have been able to make with little to no consequences for doing it.

a lot of amazon sellers simply mark working pulls as “refubrished” when all they did was reformat or if you are lucky did a zero fill and check that the sectors weren’t bad.

I don’t trust reburbs that aren’t manufacturer refurbished on any site because its a huge difference in the testing and checking being done.

I do sometimes buy used drives, but I know what I am getting there vs “refurbished” - and there is usually a pricing difference which is why so many are dishonestly calling used drives refurbs.

you want to look at the sellers warranty policies. if if they actually have one besides amazons, the seller is confident in their own items longevity

Someone linked the mod log. I read it and totally looks like echo chamber to me. You tow the line or you get removed. Did that admin open a can of worms step in doodoo and track it through the house instance making a mess? Yup. But the pot is calling the kettle black when it cries about the censorship aspect. These seem like folks that belong on reddit or their own instance because its the personal kingdom of the mods being encroached on that is their real problem.

The rest of lemmy.world admins are now trying to navigate this mess and no matter what they chose to do a large chunk of thier userbase is going to be unhappy. As far as I can see this was the least damaging way they could move on. There simply is no good ending to this, just a least bad one.
