To fellow travelers, Hannah Brehm likely looked like she was taking a belated babymoon well into her third trimester.

But she and her husband had received a crushing diagnosis: Their baby’s brain was not developing properly, upending their wanted pregnancy. Medical experts warned moving forward would likely mean her son would know only pain and suffering. The Minnesota couple wasn’t going to take that chance.

Instead, they went to Colorado, where for decades the Boulder Abortion Clinic served as a resource for women who looked to terminate their pregnancies in the second or third trimester because of medical reasons, like Brehm, or other circumstances.

After more than 50 years, that clinic quietly closed last month, leaving the U.S. with just a handful that offer abortions after 28 weeks into pregnancy — many on a case-by-case basis.

I’m genuinely curious, when in development do you think consciousness begins?

For you, does this have anything to do with human life being special or sacred, or having a soul?

I’m not looking to mock or provoke, I’m just curious because I’ve seen people place importance on the life or dna of the fetus being human or importance on when the brain forms, or when the heart starts beating. People have a wide variety of opinions on both when life starts and on when personhood starts, and the criteria they use for each. I think discussing these things objectively could help reduce internet arguments on the topic, but only if people have good faith discussion. I realize that is tough to do these days.

I believe human life to be valuable. I don’t believe in an immortal soul. I believe a baby is its own person once the DNA combines in its own pattern. I believe a lot of work has gone into dehumanizing those people. I can’t even feel mad at these people mocking me, well, not really mad. I know they think they are doing what is right. Protecting women. Imagine watching people feed their babies into a grinder and not even being able to convince them that it isn’t a great thing to do. Very distressing. I usually hold my tongue, because what good is arguing with them. I even deleted my comments , because… What’s the point? But eh… maybe I’m too easy to rile.

No, you don’t. You don’t value a woman’s life as much as a baby’s when she needs a late term abortion due to medical issues.

I know they think they are doing what is right.

Which means you think it’s wrong. The difference between you and them is you eliminate the choice a woman has.

Imagine watching people feed their babies into a grinder and not even being able to convince them that it isn’t a great thing to do.

People don’t feed their babies into grinders but you know that.

Whether you truly believe the things you say or are simply a troll is moot. Only one side of the abortion argument rests in removing bodily autonomy from women and controlling them.

We are all controlled. We can’t kill inconvenient people. Sometimes it feels like killing others is the only way to gain control, to you, I guess. It is a little easier to abandon children when they aren’t relying on our body to survive. When that is the case, abandoning them kills them. After that, somebody else can keep them alive until they are old enough to pay taxes. There was a time for choice… for most people. That time was before a third+ person was involved. Sometimes killing a rapists children can be therapeutic maybe. That is a particularly sad situation. Sometimes a child cannot survive, and must be killed lest they kill the mother. Things like that happen. That place wasn’t restraining themselves to those edge situations. Sometimes people were cutting up babies just for being inconvenient. You need not worry. I don’t vote for Republicans. You don’t need to overcompensate to get extra points for your partisan games…

No, we’re not. I don’t know what kind of nonsense this is supposed to be.

Sometimes a child cannot survive, and must be killed lest they kill the mother. Things like that happen. That place wasn’t restraining themselves to those edge situations. Sometimes people were cutting up babies just for being inconvenient.

Yeah? Anything to support that? More importantly, if a woman gets pregnant and you are neither the woman in question, nor the doctor who is providing her care then what business is it of yours at all? Explain why you (or any other person outside of the woman and her care provider) should have any say in whether a woman decides to terminate a pregnancy or not. You can object to it, you can dislike it, but you absolutely do not have the right to remove her right to bodily autonomy and choice.

You need not worry. I don’t vote for Republicans. You don’t need to overcompensate to get extra points for your partisan games…

I don’t care about politics, you do. You brought it up. You can vote for whomever you like, I’m just sick of people like you who seem to believe you have some moral authority to control how a woman chooses to manage her own body because of how you feel about it.
