I’m no historical expert and I am just kind of spitballing here but I could see a few situations where that would make sense. Like you have something that is too hot to handle for the time being, maybe you just stole from Spain and now you have to pass through a Spanish blockade? Or maybe people can easily show up to a port with a normal amount of gold/currency but then over a certain amount it either risks being confiscated or drawing attention.
Qwazpoi@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you effectively counter serious cognitive dissonance in loved ones?0·2 months agoWhen confronted with any questions that make people evaluate their dissonance people will often call back on “I don’t know” and refuse to engage information that contradicts their beliefs. If they do engage at all it may come in the form of circular logic, “Things are this way because they just are”.
It can basically become a parent getting exasperated trying to explain why the sky is blue to a kid when they don’t really know themselves.
The disconnect is often that their worldview is they are “right” and they just know that they are, and trying to prove otherwise kinda circles back on the sky argument. Saying that they are wrong is like telling them the sky is neon yellow, they know you’re wrong in their mind.
So yeah I’m not sure how to get through to that other than people being social and usually abandoning ideas if they conflict with everyone around them and offer no options for people to engage with them, but that can be undone fast with an echo chamber of false information or really anything that reinforces their beliefs.
Go to your attorney general’s website and fill out a form for a complaint. Check the box says you don’t mind getting the news involved and detail everything you’ve done so far that hasn’t worked.

These facilities only work if they are near the flies, you can’t use sterilized flies unless there is a population of flies to use them on.
When you put that together this almost looks like they are signaling plans to abandon support for the Panama facility and allow them to spread through all of South America up into Mexico.

N64 command and conquer I can still hear the commando blowing up logo and saying that was left handed.
Ocarina of Time
Skies of Arcadia
And kotor, but for some reason I remember the pazak mini game more than anything else.

Science is also for artificers.
Also people aren’t necessarily able to monetize their interest in science. Maybe if there were no barriers like people needing to pay for education, food, shelter, transportation, medical care, and the air they breathe then maybe a larger portion of those people would be the mage they want to be or at least closer to it. As it stands you are right, but things can be different than they are right now
Qwazpoi@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Lemmy, what is your "I'm calling it now" prediction for the next 10 years?0·6 months agoI think you might be missing something. If food yields were soaring that would decrease the market value of food. The current agriculture system is designed with profit as the goal and feeding people as a secondary result.
Is a supply chain inefficient? In the current system that’s alright, it lets a company charge more to make up for losses and gives them something tangible to justify price hikes.
There’s also massive surplus waste and other problems that are prevalent in the current system. Growing to feed local populations rather than growing for export would drastically shift the situation alone and is currently entirely possible, but not nearly as profitable.
Can we get enough food for everyone? Yes. Can we do it while maintaining record high margins? Probably not
Qwazpoi@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Owing your home today is nearly impossible, but even if you did the ever increasing property taxes will bury you0·7 months agoLooking at my electrical bill is depressing. It’s always power used x and then taxes that are the same as x plus fees. So using $100 in electricity means I pay $220 with over half being taxes and extra fees
It’s really inefficient. A stove has all of the heat being concentrated to one spot while a car has a whole cooling system spreading out and dissipating the heat, and cars are more efficient at that than in the 70s. Having enough heat to cook with is generally bad for an engine so by design you would want it to cool before it’s that hot.
I have had a few coworkers who put their lunch containers in their engine bay so that it would heat up for lunch though, that was for a job that had us driving around to 3-7 jobs in a day.

Qwazpoi@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione suggests evidence ‘planted’ after arrest0·9 months agoYou don’t seem very knowledgeable about the gun used in this situation.
All articles about what was found on him kept mentioning a metal slide and barrel along with a regular Glock mag, that heavily implies it was just a 3d printed Glock lower so basically just a regular Glock. The only way it would “leave no special markings on the bullet” would be if he used a gun with a plastic barrel, but I believe the FBI said shortly after the og liberator was released that it leaves enough plastic behind to be traceable.
In practice the gun is a regular Glock, that would be easily identified as not being legal in a few states. My guess would be that they weren’t getting rid of it because it’s still a perfectly serviceable firearm and he might have been planning on using it again or at least it probably seemed like a good thing to have when he was in fight or flight mode.
If you really want to get rid of evidence the metal barrel is going to be the most important thing to get rid of as far as being linked to a shooting. Ghost gun is just bad in general unless you are in one of the states that says it’s fine
