President Donald Trump on Wednesday acknowledged that his tariffs could result in fewer and costlier products in the United States, saying American kids might “have two dolls instead of 30 dolls,” but he insisted China will suffer more from his trade war.

2 dolls instead of 30 works out to a reduction of 93.3%! That’s HUGE. If that’s supposed to be his positive spin on things, Americans are truly fucked.

It really shows that he doesn’t care about Americans, he cares about punishing and attacking people that he doesn’t like. That is all that matters to him, and he doesn’t hide that.

The fact that he has supporters is absolutely unfathomable to me. Then again, those same supporters want to punish the same people he does, so it starts to make sense.

He wants to punish Americans more than probably anyone else. Americans had the nerve to laugh at him when people joked about his hair, or makeup, or physique. Americans did not elect him in 2020. Americans allowed him to be forced out and didnt fight back hard enough when Biden “stole” the election. Americans allowed him to have some minor inconveniences when they put him on trial, raided his house for classified docs or made him take reaponsibility for his actions. Americans are going to pay because he knows nothing other than vengence for percieved slights and Americans allowed them all to happen

Except the kids aren’t getting 2 dolls. They’re getting dragged out into the middle of the street half naked in the middle of the night because the brownshirts can’t even read an address correctly when they’re casually disappearing whole families.

Why the fuck is this even reported on. Fuck this whole system, down to the author that thought ‘ya that’s worth making an article’

Don’t buy your kids dolls. Buy them fpv drones.

Not sure man, my vehicle threw a rod and I am struggling to find financing to get a used vehicle until I make the money to figure out a long term solution. Partner checked FB marketplace because I don’t have an account, I checked Craigslist, and the dealers near me can’t seem to make a loan work with $1000 down on vehicles listed at $15k. Found one car selling for under 10k, but it has 95k miles and everything online seems to say it has a 135k mile average lifespan. So when you don’t know how the people before you drove it, and it’s got a 3rd party exhaust on it, I have to assume my extremely (55-60 mile) drive to work will leave me stranded on the side of the road by the end of the year still owing money on it unless I scrape the barrel everywhere in my budget and someone sell it for nickles in 6 months trying to trade it in for something half way better. Maybe I can get arrested when I become homeless and die in jail instead of on the street.

Why are you looking at dealers? Plenty of Camrys and Accords out there. They will do 400k miles easy. Ask private seller if they’re willing to do a inspection, find a mechanic that’ll do one for you and then meet at their shop.

Go to credit unions around you and apply for a loan yourself. You shouldn’t ever rely on dealerships to find financing for you. Interest rates are awful right now but with your commute you need something reliable and fuel efficient (like a Camry or Corolla).

Yeah, I was hoping to finance a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with 70k miles on it. Out the door was ~18. They shot that down pretty quick. I’ll figure out something, didn’t see any decent shape Toyotas around, small town

It’s definitely worth driving an hour or two to a bigger city to buy a car there. What I’ve done with the last several vehicles I’ve bought was to stake out TrueCar.com, find the models I’m interested in, and then watch them over a month or two to see what is and isn’t a good selling price (crossreferenced with info from KBB.com).

Once I’ve found one that seems like a good deal, I then applied for loans online with local CU’s after comparing their rates. Once approved, I headed to the dealership to buy the car, though if you’re driving a great distance you may call ahead to make sure they have it. It might also be worthwhile to find 2 or 3 other vehicles that are good deals so that you have a backup if the first doesn’t pan out.

The last time I was looking (~6 years ago), banks were unwilling to offer and very judgmental about my request for a loan on a used car. They said loans were for new cars and the bank isn’t a replacement for a little financial know-how. I only went to two banks and one credit union, because I got tired of being condescended to, but the dealership said that they hadn’t heard of used car loans from a bank before (could be a lie).

I absolutely have used a credit union loan to finance a used car. They had rules…less than ten years, 85000 miles or something, but definitely did the loan. At the time anything under 7000 was considered a personal loan and had a higher interest rate.

            Good luck.

That was absolutely a lie from the dealership. You can apply online at most places now to save yourself some time. Many places even list their loan rates broken down by the type of loan (48 month new car, 60 month new car, 60 month used car, etc) so that you can compare rates without even filling out a loan application.

You might also check your credit score with Credit Karma, or your credit card company, or bank to see where you sit (these will be Vantage scores but should be close to the FICO scores used when applying for a loan) just for some more insight.

Shop around to see who has the lowest rates and then start applying. Once approved you can then walk into the dealership to actually buy a car and even used your pre-approved loan to negotiate a better rate with the dealer since they get kickbacks from banks. Also be sure to never negotiate based on the monthly payment, just the total price of the car because they can really screw you with interest rates and term lengths to make your monthly payment seem low while you end up spending more overall when negotiating based on monthly payment alone.

I don’t understand the hard on the right has for China yet they benefit greatly from China’s low costs. As soon as the USSR fell and Islamic fundamentalism faded away I just knew the US would be looking for a new boogeyman to keep us distracted and justify defense spending.

There are many reasons you would be against china.

      1. Not a democracy
      2. Helping Russia in the invasion of Ukraine
      3. Aims to invade Taiwan
      4. You always want some amount of local manufacturing. Relying on a single supplier is never a good idea in any context if you can avoid it.
      5. Helps north Korea
      6. Claims international and other countries waters for itself
      7. Uyghurs
      8. Tibet
      9. Many active border disputes due to territorial expansion aims.
      10. Secret police stations to enforce it’s laws outside china
      11. Hong Kong

Low prices doesn’t justify any of that.

And that (non-exclusive) list (except the 1st point) is only what affects people outside of china. There’s many other reasons to dislike the CCP that only affects the Chinese. Like mass surveillance and censorship.

That’s the real statement. Instead of 30 dolls it will be 2, but that translates to food supplies, too. Instead of 30 dinners in a month, we’ll only have 2.

In the year after Maduro took over Venezuela, the average citizen lost 40 pounds.

If a dollar is good, then lots of dollars is even better. To him, toys are like currency for kids, so when he wanted to buy a doll for Ivanka or Eric, he’d give them 30 of the same doll, rather than a bunch of different toys.

Jr just wanted his daddy’s love, which doest exist, so he was shit out of luck.

113 American Girl dolls would be expensive as shit though - I think with all the accessories and accoutrements you’re looking at the price of a decent used car. The newer models are also shittier (less history focused, because Mattel lol)

The books though - they went hard. There was an entire series about about an enslaved girl who escaped to the north with her mom (I wanna say Addie?). Felicity, the American Revolution girl, stole a horse and got told what the consequences could have been (like, iirc it’s like “yeah you could have totally been hanged for that stunt.”)

I was too broke for the dolls, but if you have a kid - the books are A-tier children’s historical fiction.

American kids might “have two dolls instead of 30 dolls,”

Operating on the assumption that most households aren’t buying their kids 30 dolls (and those that do are probably going to be under the least economic pressure to cut spending), if American households actually cut spending on their kids by 93% of whatever they were going to spend, I expect that midterms are going to be interesting.

The wife and I have cut about that much of our spending, not including rent and bills. Major ports are already showing a 30 percent drop on imports. And not to mention that most of our farmland is either corn or soy. Pretty sure the majority of corn is used for ethanol and soy is exported. Other countries won’t buy our exports and we won’t by our own products. I’ve worked in manufacturing, American made is as bad as the “cheap” Chinese shit we complain about, only significantly higher priced.
