An easy to get general discharge from the military? I think lots of people with years left to serve are going to enjoy leaving early with all of their benefits.

I have a feeling most of the benefits will be going out the door behind them shortly thereafter.

I have to hope their contractually obligated to provide them. If not I’d look forward to the class action suite but then again the judges are openly corrupt. America is a clusterf*ck right now.

Laws don’t matter to Orange Julius, I doubt contracts do either.

I hope I’m wrong for a lot of people’s sake tho.

Fun fact, when you join you waive your right to sue the military. Might be able to sue the VA or parts of the government though.

That’s not actually true. It’s just very restricted, the contracts and laws around your service make it very hard. You can’t sue for things that are legal orders and you generally can’t sue specific people. You can absolutely sue the DoD for things like breach of contract. For example if you were processed out of active duty normally, on time and everything, and then were arrested for desertion a month later you would likely have a case against the DoD. It just has to be off the wall stuff like that.

Yeah. He also wants to prevent using military healthcare for transgender care. So even if they could get VA benefits it wouldn’t help where trans people need it most.

Oh yeah, I’m glad it’s there and able to do what it can with the resources it’s given.

I’m not a veteran but like many I have friends and family who served. It never ceases to amaze me how much support republicans in general and “suckers and losers, what was in it for them” Trump republicans in particular get from the armed forces.

It would upset me, but then I remember that’s how they treat all their followers and the armed forces are just another job for the working class to fill. They practice equal opportunity contempt.

I mean outside of America we are still going to all let this happen. We are all marching straight into WW3 like the “this is fine” meme.

Should we survive as a species I look forward to 50 years from now where America adopts strong anti-facism laws like Germany has.

Question is, who is the good guy in this new world we are entering?

FWIW as a Canadian we are so fucked. America is going to come knocking for our resources soon and we won’t be able to say no.

It’ll happen. Three minutes later, they’ll discover what a bad idea it is to kick people out of the army in the middle of a recruiting shortage. Nothing will be learned and they’ll skip along to the next bad idea.

You think with the recruiting problems we have you’d do your best to retain the people we have.

If you can get through basic and fulfill your tasks you should be able to be in the military. If the government doesn’t want to pay for “gender affirming care” that’s fine. But these people should still be allowed in the military.

Also, what kind of discharge are these people getting? Honorable, General, Dishonorable?

The ideological score here must be worth more to Trump than the strength of America’s military, already hurting for new recruits, which says a lot and frankly scares the fuck out of me

Well, the problem is you’re thinking logically. It’s an ideological victory on both ends for him.

Conservatives view this as strengthening the military, not weakening it.

The actual strength of America’s Military doesn’t matter because they don’t have hostile nations on their borders. So when America’s Military loses some of their force projection ability it can be used to say we’re turning towards isolationist policy, which is also a win for him. (From the Putin angle and from the Conservative one)

And, again, if you point out that this move will weaken the American Military, well what are you? A terrorist who doesn’t believe they have the greatest, manliest fighting force ever seen?

He’s already working on purging military leadership so only Trump loyalists are left. If he orders a purge of trans people it will happen. Everyone saying “he can’t really do this” is still in living in hopeful dreams. Reality is that Trump will be in charge and surrounded by fanatical loyalists running all branches of government and the military. The dangers for his chosen scapegoats are real.

Not something anyone can stop if he chooses to go through with it. He is the commander of the armed forces. He can make sweeping policies like this that fuck up everything.
