What a great country you have.
Do you know what could fix this problems? Even more guns! Definitely…
If our kids aren’t even safe at school then why the hell do we care so much about air travel?
Can we just move all school to inside airports?
Oh man, Republicans would vote all in on spending money to reinforce school security. As long as they get to pick the military industry organizations that they have all their stock in of course.
why the hell do we care so much about air travel?
Because highjacked planes are capable of attacking the ruling class (e.g. the Pentagon and the Capitol Building), not just the little people.
Doing absolutely nothing about it in…3…2…1…GO!
“I was scared because I’ve never been in a school shooting,” he told ABC News.
Goddamn
This is only like the 350th this year. It’s just a coincidence. Happens everywhere.
Man. It’s almost like easy access to firearms is a problem or something.
And Settling things at high noon
Jesus. When I was 14 I was playing with action figures. I can’t imagine what would drive a 14 year old to want to hurt people at this scale.
MAGA would be my guess.
That’s kind of an unnecessary leap.
Nowadays? No, it really isn’t.
I doubt it. Don’t get me wrong, I am not defending those fascists, but a 14 year old (freshman?) is not going to just up and kill a bunch of people over politics they almost definitely do not care about one bit.
He’ll “be tried as an adult” because nothing matters and what if it did.
I imagine something similar to Columbine: Unchecked bullying culture in the student body.
Bullying has always been part of human nature. Mass shootings are a modern phenomenon. They also didn’t become widespread until well after it was possible to obtain the weapons necessary to carry one out. Bullies are a factor but it’s a far more complex subject than that issue alone can explain.
I was bullied as a kid, and if it had been that easy for me to get guns back then I would have seriously looked into it.
Yeah, it is that simple.
The relatively recent accessibility of guns everywhere in some parts of the country makes gun tragedies a lot more likely.
Whether it’s bullying at school, domestic partner violence, or cops having to shoot first because a perp on the street is much more likely to have a gun than other countries.
Mass shootings have been around since the 1700s.
Kids shooting people in school has been around just as long. Usually they shot teachers. Note that parents were concerned about the safety of kids bringing pistols to school even back during the pioneer days:

People today have access to much more deadly weapons.
For anyone wondering about Georgia’s gun control laws:
-No background checks
-No purchase permit laws
-K-12 teachers are allowed to carry
-No red flag laws
-No bans on high capacity magazines
-No secured gun storage required
-Open carry / no concealed carry permit required
-No ghost gun regulations
-People with assault or violent misdemeanors can carry guns
-Colleges and universities must allow guns on campus
-Minors can possess rifles and shotguns
But Brian Kemp is urging all Georgians to pray for the safety of those in the classroom!!
I’m willing to bet this 13 year old didn’t walk into a gun store and make a purchase. I see this as a failure by the parents for being negligent with their firearm(s). Maybe one of those laws would have prevented them from making a purchase though.
His father bought it for him as a present, which is legal, as I pointed out, because minors can own guns in Georgia.
Yeah that’s pretty fucked
Now guess from where were bought most guns used in violent crimes in other states: https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/national-international/chicago-gun-trace-report-2017/27140/
Now this is the kind of errant pedantry up with which I shall not put!
You have to be 18 to buy a gun and the shooter is 14 so he didn’t get the gun legally.
He was also investigated at 13:
Red flag laws will open floodgates of abuse to accuse anyone of being unstable based merely on perceptions. Not sure I trust those. But in general you made a great list.
In your view what red flag laws go too far?
If it means less guns, I personally dgaf.
So you’re telling me the good guys with guns prevented the entire thing right?
I thoroughly despise living in Georgia. There are so many gun-fetishist, uneducated, redneck morons who live near me that I have, at times, felt like I was literally suffocating.
The moment I can move, I will get the hell out of this hell-hole of a state. The only good thing you can even say about it is that it’s not as bad as Florida — where there are just as many idiots, but also sweat running down cracks you didn’t know you had.
And having a kid in school, this is one of my worst fears as a parent. The sheer helplessness those parents must feel right now, it’s both mind-boggling and maddening.
Fuck Georgia. Fuck the USA. Fuck the piece of shits who value their guns over children. And fuck anyone who believes that the cost of their own freedom is watching as children are murdered in the classroom.
What city do you live in if you don’t mind me asking? I know a few folks who adore Savannah.
Schools will be closed through the end of the week, the superintendent said.
Only in America can 2 of your teachers and 2 of your classmates be shot dead. And they are like we are only giving you 2 days off while we clean this up, but hey we will be ready to go Monday.
I guess along with those active shooter drills they also got an active shooter cleanup plan.
Remember the days when a story like this was shocking? Now it’s not even a surprise, nevermind a shock.
I saw this story earlier.
It was under the one about Steve Doocy asking a dumb question.
America has reached the point where mass shootings in schools are barely newsworthy.
Literally the ONLY ONLY ONLY way to have Prevented ANY kids from Dying was if SOMEONE KILLED the Gunman BEFORE he killed anyone else! That’s LITERALLY the only way we could have saved ALL those people from Dying!
You’re in luck! I’ve just launched an anti-crime AI focused company, designed to keep kids safe! Our predictive model will identify high risk individuals and other undesirables. We can then remove them to a safe location where they can learn to be productive in our work and education programs!
First round financing netted eleventy berzillion dollars
Ok, but only if the suspects name is etched onto a little ball that comes out of a machine that looks like it serves gumballs and the UI is controlled in a 3d space with some cool gloves by Tom Cruise.
