If you’re ever on the opposite side of Dolly on an ethical or moral issue, you’re on the wrong side.

      Fucking eh!

If you spend 10 minutes looking into Dolly Parton, you’ll find a Fucking Angel.

Legitimately. Look into her reading program. Not just the news articles, but the written deals. She makes sure that if her program is a success, that the county is contracted to keep it going FOR-FUCKING-EVER. Her legacy is generations of kids who graduate high school because she sent them books.

And that’s just ONE thing she did, with a legacy that will outlast every one of us.

      We ride at dawn.

I can think of other reasons

          There’s a better life
And you think about it, don’t you?
          It’s a rich man’s game
No matter what they call it
          And you spend your life
          Putting money in his wallet

Did you censor the word “bitch” or is this some sort of fucking idiot censorship on lemmy.world? Fucking swear I’ll leave this instance at a drop of a hat if it is dumbass censorship.

Words don’t need to be blanket censored on the internet. Go ham with moderation but censoring words is how we end up with weird phrases like “unalive” instead of what they actually are murder, suicide, and death. Which makes it fucking hard to talk about fucking real god damn mother fucking problems people are dealing with you corporate bitch ass shills.

Looked up the article. They’re mad that Dolly Parton, who is a very outspoken Christian, is specifically the kind who embraces the “God loves everyone and that means we should love everyone, too” ethos of Christianity. In other words, the author of the article is pissed that Dolly doesn’t gaybash. What a fucking piece of shit you have to be to sit down and be like “you know what’s wrong with this person? They aren’t cruel enough.”

For example; you should always love your kid, but you should not necessarily accept what they chose to do or what they become.

good point, if i had a kid and they turned out to be a trump supporter, i would never accept that. but i also wouldn’t disown them like trump supporter parents do to their kids for being gay

I’m sorry for all the dolly fans out there, but I have a confession… I don’t care for her music.

But I will defend this woman simply because her charity work alone makes her deserving of much more.

And I know I don’t even know half of what she does.

So if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go sharpen up my torches and light my pitchforks, because ain’t nobody dissing dolly Parton around me.

I don’t care for most of it that much either but as you I can’t help respect her.

She was inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame but declined it because she didn’t play rock and roll, then they persuaded her to accept it anyway and she got inducted. What does she do? She of course makes a rock and roll album with duets among that a good duet with Rob Halford on Bygones.

Yeah I have nothing but respect for her.

She is an incredibly prolific songwriter for other people as well. There’s a decent chance you like a song she wrote that is performed by someone else - if that makes you feel any better about your sacrilege (smiley face emoji)

Most people don’t like Dolly for her music. It would be hard to get so many people to agree on one artist based on their music.

But anybody saying she’s a bad person is just flat wrong or just trying to stir shit.

As a non-Dolly music fan, I agree with you wholeheartedly… for now.

But later, if it comes out after she’s dead, that she was secretly harvesting puppy blood in her basement or abusing handicapped kids for decades or some other crazy awful thing, I’ll have to re-evaluate. And though I’m not hoping for this to be the case, it just seems like that’s exactly the type of shit this timeline would do to us. Guys I think I’m losing hope for humanity. Dolly save us all.

She’s 78 years old and she’s been in the public eye for almost 60 years, and she’s been pretty upfront about her views and the good that she wants to do the entire time, and putting her money where her mouth is, and somehow some awful people still try to smear her and still can’t find anything to smear her with.

I live in Tennessee. The number of lives that Dolly Parton has changed for the better is immeasurable. The two things you’re supposed to do as a Christian are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

She loves her neighbors more than she loves herself. Anyone talking trash about Dolly is the worst kind of person.

My wife and I recently had a child. We came home the other day to a book in the mail; “The Little Engine That Could”. It was sent by a foundation that Dolly either started or contributes heavily to. She chose that book as the introductory book because it reminds her of the struggles her father endured and overcame learning to read. Fuck whoever dispareges Dolly Parton in the neck with a rusty screwdriver.

Metal head here who idolizes Dolly. She’s a national treasure the likes of Mister Rogers. Who has also been attacked by the right.

For those interested she’s in a couple of VERY trans positive episodes of The Orville (one just her song 9-5 and the other in a long scene as herself).

Anyone bashing Dolly hates freedom is no good. A full on poophead.

She’s also in the movie 9 to 5, which was what the song was written for, which is about three women who have had enough of their misogynist boss and get revenge on him. On top of that, she starred in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which is one of the few films which doesn’t denigrate sex workers and actually shows them as normal people.

One of the many things I love about The Orville is that the song 9-5 became a revolutionary feminist anthem to the Moclans. And that she was sweet enough to make a cameo.

I saw 9 to 5 when it came out as I am old. I still love it.

All 3 female leads were awesome, and she absolutely held her own against the legendary Tomlin and Fonda. Also recently passed Dabney Coleman.

I was only 3 when it came out, but it was definitely a regular staple of the cable movie channels when I got older. My dad was a film historian, so we had all the movie channels so he could tape movies to show them in class. 9 to 5 would show up on occasion.

As you suggested, what an amazing cast!

Edit: Just read this on the IMDB-

This was Dolly Parton’s theatrical film debut. In preparation for her role as Doralee Rhodes, she not only committed to memory her own part, but the parts of every other role in the film. Apparently, the two experienced starring actresses, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, burst out laughing when Parton let on that she believed that pictures were filmed in the chronological order of a film’s script.

          That’s adorable and also impressive.
