  • Could be a few things:

    • one is clever cuts. Film one scene and film a scene at a different time. The time you see the actor looking at something erotic, you position the camera on them but they are looking at something that is not erotic so they don’t get aroused. But you give the illusion that the character is looking at it to the audience.
    • masturbation. If you masturbate before the scene, then you are less likely to get visibly aroused.
    • get an actor who isn’t aroused by that. If filming a scene with a man trying to seduce another man and he fails, then get a straight guy who won’t be aroused by the gay seduction.
    • too many times filming. Many scenes you see on TV and movies have been filmed multiple times. Rare is it for them to do one cut and be done, even if it was perfect and got everything the director was hoping to see. After doing that scene a few times, the natural feelings get lost on you. It’s why a lot of funny scenes that make the audience burst out laughing uncontrollably can be filmed without the cast and crew doing that to ruin the scene. You’ve done it so much that you are now so tired and bothered, you don’t feel the natural urge to laugh or be aroused. Some directors will use this to their advantage in, what some may consider to be unethical, to agitate their actors into feeling emotions for a scene or so they don’t feel emotions for a scene.
    • some actors just have the natural ability to hold back some natural emotions. It’s what makes them so good at their job.

  • I find more success in private party transactions on sites like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace in the US. Not sure how it is in India, but most places around me don’t do trade-ins unless it’s like Apple for a smartphone or laptop and they give you such low cash that it’s nearly worthless. They offered me $50 USD for my 2017 MacBook Air that is still going strong. That won’t even cover sales tax on a new MacBook Air of the lowest variety.

But I posted this on local sites for my area and posted a price with a thing in the description that I’m open to trades. While waiting for a response, I go check out other listings, sometimes specifically searching for “MacBook trade” and I’ll find tons of non-MacBook listings that have these keywords and I can make a deal with these people. Either to trade with cash or not.

Some people will be willing to downgrade with the promise of cash on your side because they want money more than they want another item. And in the case of a camera, if someone doesn’t really want to give up their camera but needs the money, hey that might be your ticket so they can at least have a camera of the same type that is a downgrade and some money on top.

  • Probably taking advantage of you. You seem like you’re the only real person who’s been kind to her and she doesn’t respect it but desires it and only comes when she needs it.

That’s a user. Someone who doesn’t care about you and only wants you around when you benefit them.

A true friend is someone who is there with you for the good and bad times, alike. They’re not just coming around because they need help. They’re also coming around because they want to spend time with you and grow with you and they want to be there when you need help too.

This is not a friend of any sort. This is a person who uses people.

You seem to partly know this deep down since you call her a former friend. You know she’s up to no good.

  • Framework has a few options now so you’ll need to be specific on the particular one you’re eyeing from them. And whatever choice that would be, you can do some benchmarks between their core hardware like AGPU, etc. to see how well it would stack up based on paper statistics.

But as much as I love my Steam Deck (LCD), it is starting to show its age for newer titles out there. I want to say this started with the Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 where I began noticing it. The base Cyberpunk game plays very well on the Steam Deck but any interactions in the newer parts of the map shows a decrease in frame rates and increased fan speed.

If you’re mainly playing older titles, emulating older games (can go up to Xbox 360 and PS3 with most issues in that era), or for streaming from a more capable computer, then the Steam Deck should be a good choice.

Though, I agree with someone else here that productivity can be a bit difficult on the Steam Deck unless you go for a keyboard that folds up and is made for it and feels comfortable. It’ll be more clunky to haul around like from class to class, for example, than a standard laptop would be. Though be aware that you’ll probably be using a Bluetooth keyboard, so that’s one more device to ensure is charged up. And speaking of batteries, the Steam Deck’s battery life is something you’ll want to consider and compare to another laptop like the Framework if you plan to take it with you on mobile like class to class or for studying in the library, a coffee shop, etc. My Steam Deck’s battery life has significantly decreased since using it, but I can’t exactly say what the life is like for productivity since I’m usually gaming on it and that takes a lot.

And on that note, USB devices like a keyboard do work with the Steam Deck with no issues, but you’ll want a dongle and that is going to add to bulkiness and more to carry since it only has 1 USB type C port which it also shares for charging.

Also, the choice of SteamOS could be a problem depending on what you want to do since it’s an immutable OS. If you’re just gaming and word processing, then it should be fine. But if you hope to do some tinkering in the system, you’re going to have problems there than if you went with a non-immutable distro. Of course you can install any other distro on it, including going to Windows, if you wished, but you lose out on the superior, made-for SteamOS gaming features and modes built for the Steam Deck.

  • I get them confused sometimes too, but no I can confirm I used borax this year. Here’s a picture of the box I have been using

Same brand we’ve been using for years. Unless Borax is the name of the brand lol but the side of the box says “ingredients: sodium borate”

But that’s good to know on boric acid! I heard that for ants too, mixing borax with sugar and a little water and put it somewhere and let them take it back to their colony where it wipes them out but I’ve actually never tried it that way. We only ever sprinkled this down on the floors inside and outside and then vacuumed it up when the summer season is over.

Speaking of ants, I haven’t had an ant problem like I have in previous years too. But that may also be because I’ve been pouring boiling hot water down anthills in my yard as soon as I saw them appearing in the beginning of summer too. It could be due to this, I’m unsure. I had a really bad ant problem in the house last year too that I forgot about until you mentioned that, but I’ve had none this year, and not sure if this could be related now that we’re talking about it.

  • My dad swore by borax and I can attest to it this summer.

You can find it with the laundry detergents.

We sprinkle it on the ground and it covers everything like a scene from Scarface lol.

But what I’ve heard happens is that the roaches get it on their legs and it begins killing them as they have further contact with the powder.

I’ve heard this isn’t toxic to humans or pets, and I’ve not had issues myself or my cat or any of the other animals we’ve had over the years doing this.

I have had really bad roaches and earwigs at my house. I got fed up with it this year and threw down some of this all over the ground outside and inside. I did this at the beginning of summer when they start getting crazy.

I won’t say I’ve not seen any at all, but the numbers have gone down by 98%, easily, on both of these nasty insects.

There’s a place under a berry bush I have that seemed to harbor them and I made sure to sprinkle down a lot around the edges of that plant. About 5 inches away from the base, but still close enough and in a circle around it. I have seen some but much much less than in previous years there and my berry bush is doing fine and not reacting badly to the borax.

  • Biggest downside is Windows always rebooting after updates, and if I don’t sit there, it boots back into Linux as it’s the first option in Grub.

This is why I edited Grub to not timeout and instead wait for me to make a selection.

    Can be done by running

    sudo vim /etc/default/grub

Can also use nano or some other editor than vim too.

And changing GRUB_TIMEOUT=X to GRUB_TIMEOUT=-1 or a larger value to give you more time if you prefer to have it timeout eventually. -1 disables the countdown to auto select entirely.

    And then run

    update-grub

    To have the changes confirmed.

I do this because I use Windows about half and Linux the other half so letting me make my decision works best for me.

  • My mom did this. She went into the post office where a woman who I went to school with many, many years ago was now working and asked her out in front of everyone. I wasn’t there, but she told me about it and I legit felt embarrassed.

Thankfully the woman was nice about it and did go out with me on one date but politely declined a second date. She was very kind and nice and made, what I think, was the best attempt to legitimately give me a chance at a date but we just weren’t compatible to her and that’s fine.

Say that to say, it’s perfectly normal to feel embarrassed because parents asking out someone for their child (for lack of a better term as you are an adult) is weird and abnormal.

But if you’re up for it, go for it. This can be both embarrassing and a real opportunity to find someone nice. Hopefully she’s nice like my date was and can give you a real chance.

But if you don’t want to, that’s fine too. Everyone moves at their own pace and your dad needs to respect that. Regardless whether this works out for you (and her) or not or if you decide not to go, he needs to respect you moving at your own pace and making decisions when you want to move and when you don’t. And if he wants to help, he should respect you by asking you or waiting for you to ask him for help.

Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.

  • Sounds like some people I stopped being friends with from work last year. Everyone else is always the problem. Eventually they had a problem with me and their issues weren’t even valid.

You can’t win with these kind of people. Your best option is to avoid them as much as possible and let them inevitably bring themselves down. Keep everything work related and stop doing anything extra for them.

Sounds like that’s already in progress. It sucks. It sounds like you’ve been really kind and tried to stand up for them. Maybe they have some underlying issues, but that’s not your concern. You should be protecting yourself.

  • Honestly I’m glad for progress too. But to me, it’s still not enough. I’m glad I didn’t get any comments about how little it was like I was thinking. I don’t care how little trash it is, I don’t want to see ANY of it! I think that’s what got me so enraged because I’ve been coming to this property for decades and never seen any amounts of trash and to see these straight up infuriated me.

I went to Iceland a few years ago and it was so clean. I couldn’t find one bit of trash anywhere, in any place of the country we visited. It made me feel sick to my stomach comparing it to my home where trash has become a literal part of the city streets. Gum and other spots and little bits of random trash fly around and it’s just another day for us.

I want so much better for our planet and society as a whole. It kills me being on a hiking trail and seeing the littlest bit of trash in the middle of nowhere. Takes me out of the experience and reminds me of the state of filth we live in and just feels so wrong to do to the one place where humans are not permanent, let alone our own neighborhoods.

I had no idea what it was like before my time, but it feels good to know we’ve gotten better about it, in some respects, especially judging by that picture. Glad we had people like you helping to make things better.

  • I thought about doing it to his cars since I don’t know where he lives. But I figured that might be just making it go back to where it came from, whether he gets mad and throws it somewhere else or it blows away. I’m not sure when he gets back too. He’s parking his cars here because he’s moving out of state and just wants to keep them here temporarily, so no idea when he’d get back to ensure he gets back his “lost property”.
