As a Canadian, I find it very sad that schools have to resort to panic alarm systems as if they were living in a Mad Max movie without a government.

China is unique. The one-child policy has only recently been lifted, and the government is actively encouraging the population to have more children. The problem is that because of economic hardship and because this policy has changed the family culture in China, parents still do not want to have multiple children.

Understandable. As others said, they have a demographic decline.

Perhaps VPN servers in Brazil (I’m no lawyer) but people can choose to connect to servers outside the country.

I think the professor himself is fed up with the situation, because as a researcher he is forced to publish his articles to for-profit publishers, who are basically the mafia gatekeepers, who profit from information that should be open to everyone. And the university profits from this lucrative business.

Outside of North America, same-store sales slid 7%. In China, Starbucks’ second-largest market, same-store sales tumbled 14% as both average ticket and transactions shrank. Starbucks has faced stiffer competition in China from local coffee shops that undercut the coffee giant on price.

Sound advice. During my first year of computer science, one of my professors told me that programming languages are just a tool to solve a problem. The logic to solve it is the key. Whether it’s Java, Python, Go, etc. If you don’t know how to tell the computer what to do, you can’t program anything in any language.

My experience was with Apple News. When I wanted To cancel before the end date, it told me I would lose access to the trial.

Unfortunately, a lot of companies do this now, including Apple. I made it a habit to create a reminder to cancel before the end date.

I like to think of instances as countries. Each instance has its own rules and culture, and that affects how the communities are moderated. For example, the beehaw.org instance is heavily moderated compared to lemmy.world. Continuing with our example, the Technology community on beehaw.org will be moderated differently than the Technlology community on Lemmy.world.

So each instance has its own reason for existing. Another example will be https://lemmynsfw.com/ which is an 18+ instance. Basically, when you register in an instance, you become a citizen of that country.

So in summary, each instance has its own rules, its own policies, its own culture, and the moderators of the community that is that instance are bound by them. So unixporn@lemmy.world is not the same as unixporn@lemmy.ml.

Indeed. I have an AMD video card and multi-monitor VRR works beautifully in Wayland. But unfortunately, according to some replies (and yours), Nvidia doesn’t support it yet.

It’s really unfortunate. Multi-monitor VRR is a must as I’m a gamer and I’d like my second monitor to be active when I’m playing, so I can use Discord and browse game guides, for example. I think I’ll continue to buy AMD graphics cards until this issue is resolved.
