  • 100% and I’m sure you know this too but just to add to your point, I believe the US government spends more money per capita on healthcare than anywhere in Europe, so even under the “Why should I?” lens, the current approach costs individuals more because they have to pay for it in taxes and then also in insurance premiums, copay etc.

It’s not just for the benefit of society as a whole, “you” as an individual would also be financially better off under a socialised system.

  • 100% this, I’ve been a few times to pubs etc. where they tell you the kitchen closing time separately from the pub closing time but then when you try to order food before that they say they already took last orders because the kitchen staff finish at that time.

Like bro, politely I do not care what time your staff finish their shift, it doesn’t affect me. As a customer, I care what time service ends - that’s the time that should be included on the opening hours to the public.

  • My mum is like this but I think this kind of thing depends on where you’re at in your financial journey and also the type of person you are.

I find that cash burns a hole in my pocket and I check my apps regularly to track spending so any cash effectively just “disappears”, I won’t even remember what I spent it on.

I completely prefer digital spending because for me it’s easier not to lose track and if I seem short, I can trace exactly where it went.

If you’re someone who is not in financial trouble and pays off credit cards regularly then I advise trying to find one with decent rewards and use it for as much of your spending as possible.

This not only gets you air miles / cash back but also helps to build a strong credit record if you’re looking to buy a house, car, … in the future.

  • It is very confusing. There’s socially liberal, which is what Americans are usually referring to which is generally progressive, more freedoms for people etc.

The other liberal is Liberalism which is largely about being in favour of private property, private companies etc. and a free market, which tends to (but not always) correlate with being socially conservative.

Here in the UK, one of the big parties is the Liberal Democrats, which is a pro-Liberalism centre-right wing party, but because of the name a lot of people confuse them for progressives.

  • I recently tried this for the first time for my grandad on an old dying laptop of his which was struggling to run at any speed.

During the install it had already messed with the hard drive partitions in order to run the live environment, which is a big no-no for me.

The whole point of the live environment is it shouldn’t change the system until you try to install!

It also meant I no longer had a free partition to install to anymore so I couldn’t even get through the installer since I also couldn’t resize etc. because the partition was in use.

Been using Debian/Ubuntu based Linux for about 20 years and never seen this issue until Pop! OS
