It has some to do with evolutionary pressure but more to do with water, surfactants and friction in the right application works very very well for antimicrobial purposes and the addition of antibacterial chemicals is potentially harmful to you without benefit(this is why Europe and the US largely banned triclosan soap). There’s nothing we’d really lose by encouraging resistance to things like alcohol sanitizer which works for most things, though. That works in a different way. The metabolic demands to resist that would include things like spore forming. That doesn’t just appear in a plasmid with some selective pressure like antimicrobial resistance.

Yeah, drinking from the garden hose, with phthalates, polyvinyl chloride, bisphenol A, lead, cadmium, etc turned out to not be such a good idea. Childhood memories, when they were good, sure.
