Wall Street is increasingly betting that Trump will blink first in the tariffs stand-off

Trump Always Chickens Out – or TACO for short. Investors like narratives to explain the financial world, and they appear to have seized on this one: whenever Donald Trump faces a market backlash, he will back down.

It would be fair to say the US president did not take kindly to the suggestion that he was being a “chicken” when asked by a reporter at the White House about the term that is gaining traction on Wall Street.

“But don’t ever say what you said,” he added to the reporter. “That’s a nasty question.” Apparently riled, he later returned to the theme, insisting that he was no chicken, and that often people accused him of being too tough.

But recurrent retreats by Trump have become the basis for stock markets rebounding after falls, even as the US president has raised tariffs to their highest level in more than a century.

Sad thing is we knew before the election that he needled easily. Whoever decided to stop doing that during the campaign needs to be taken for some wall to wall counseling.

During his first term, there was some issue that he was scheduled to meet with Pelosi and Schumer about, that afternoon. The day before, someone had made some crack about him that got under his skin. Knowing that they’d be meeting with him that afternoon, Pelosi repeated the insult, knowing he’d stew on it all day.

When the meeting happened, Pelosi and Schumer were waiting in the room when HitlerPig stormed in, hollered for a few minutes, and stormed out, while Pelosi and Schumer tried to hold back their smiles.

Schumer is a spineless weenie, but Pelosi always knew how to get to HitlerPig, and used it at every opportunity. We need someone to do that now.

Trump always wants to be known for his “great economy” when in office. Because of that I dont think 'TACO" is going to change his behavior.

It depends if it takes off or not. This little bubble we’ve seen on Lemmy is fun but it’s not going to last and therefore it wont’ change much. The reporter was risking a lot by shoving his nose in it, and that’s what the real story is.

But people have a strong aversion to treating trump as something other than “slightly off” normal. He is very much not normal. He is demented and his narcissism is on full regular display every time he speaks.

“Don’t you EVER say what you said!” he barked. His rage is always just barely being pulled at the last minute. But if “regular” peasants like this reporter keep stinging him he’ll freak the fuck out, and all the intel agencies in China and russia and everywhere else know it.

All anyone has to do is get him to freak out in the proper direction and bam - you control whatever part of the US they want.

Always bet on Donnie chickening out. He had the 2016 nomination sewn up, and challenged Bernie Sanders to a debate for charity. Bernie said ‘sure’ and Trump had to run from his own dare.

I love when he calls something “nasty” because that means that he feels insulted by it hahaha

Like mist dictators he has a very fragile ego, it doesn’t take much.

Most of these media goons are way too soft on him. He’s an easy and deserving target for harsher criticism.

I mean, he might be chickening out, or maybe he doesn’t actually care about carrying through in the first place. He’s spent enough time with Musk to get some pump-and-dump lessons on making big outlandish tweets and not following through. It’s not like Elon got in any trouble for it, and he did it loads of times. Maybe Trump is just telling all his buddies “okay, this week is the time to buy, next week be ready to sell”.

Do we actually want him to drive our economy off a cliff just to humiliate him…? Wtf

I do not. He might chicken out but hurting his feelings about it is not worth destroying futures for

Collaboration with the enemy in order to avoid punishment is never a good strategy. They will come after you anyway, you’re just making it easier for them. Always resist as much as possible, slowing them down and frustrating them until we can get the upper hand and defeat them.

Never voluntarily surrender your freedom in exchange for a promise of safety, they will not honor their promise.

So when Trump dared Kim Jong Un to nuke us, that was a good idea too, then?

Also it’s not surrendering or bending over to just not make fun of him for not taking a catastrophic action. Kinda puzzled that’s controversial.
