Oh is it? It couldn’t just be a joke? Or hear me out and opinion. An o-pin-yun is this fancy way of signaling to others your virtues. It’s a new technology I believe developed by the Romans that can be found on many media formats.

That’s basically what virtue signaling is, isn’t it? A loosely held opinion that X is good or Y is bad without any firm conviction behind it. Like, “I’m against ethnic cleansing in Palestine but I’m not gonna boycott Israel because that could be considered antisemitic” or somesuch.

It’s basically trying to have your cake while eating it, too. Like this guy, driving his Tesla while telling people he actually hates what it (or rather, Elon) stands for. God beware if I should have to change my habits in order to prove that I actually mean it.

You can participate in society just fine without buying a car from Elon. There are plenty of alternatives, including fully electric ones, available.

And a person who already owns a Tesla can then discover that Elon is crazy, hence the bumper sticker. You may find this shocking, but other people on this planet exist who have different experiences than you.

They could sell the car and buy a different one if they really cared.

There are plenty of EVs available these days, including some that are just as fast and/or luxurious as a Tesla.

This is like driving a massive V8 truck with a “climate change is real” bumper sticker if you ask me. And I bet you’d have no problem seeing the irony then, would you.

Not everyone can afford to do that. And the cost isn’t the only consideration. Availability of compatible charging stations, comparable range/cost, and an number of other factors come into play that you keep ignoring. It’s just not that simple for most people.

You don’t know that, unless you claim psychic knowledge of the finances of every Tesla owner— rather than admit you’re wrong, lol

So you’re just here to troll in bad faith, not have a rational discussion. Got it.

Perhaps not, but believe it or not, you CAN sell your car and buy a different one instead. If you actually hate him that badly, that is.

You can sell your car and buy a different one instead if you have enough money to pay the extra on top of the trade-in and if you don’t mind being needlessly wasteful because you hate the president of the company you bought the car from when you didn’t hate him yet.

Why would any rational person do such a thing?

If you have the money to afford a Tesla I’m just going to assume that you have the money to buy almost any other car as well.

That’s an odd assumption. Especially when the cost of living has risen substantially since 2008 when Teslas first came out.

It sounds more like you have money to be able to afford to do such things.

Maybe you can switch cars whenever you want, but for most people, it’s a big expense. And wasteful if you don’t wait until you have to.

And if you bought a Tesla when you still thought it was a decent company, you’re probably the sort of person who is not a fan of being wasteful.

It’s a fucking Tesla, not a Hyundai. The absolute cheapest model starts at 40 grand. 75 if it’s a Model S.

Sorry, but I don’t think “it’s wasteful” is a valid excuse here.

I don’t understand what the cost has to do with it. Why does that not make switching cars a big expense?

And why is being wasteful not a valid excuse? I drive very car I have ever owned until I can’t anymore. Because there are way too many junked cars just sitting around and new materials wasted on new cars that are not necessary.

I drive a Prius. I bought it years ago. If I found out today that the president of Toyota is a racist, why would I sell my Prius just because he’s worth hating?
