That is obviously fake. I don’t even detect any real attempt to make it believable.
Bold claims, no detail, perfectly aligned with the biggest fears of what Musk could have done. Even the stupid mention of AI agents and the link to an example in documentation, as if that random stuff was evidence that was congruent with the earlier claims.
Plus they fucked up the internal consistency, despite how short the text is: In the intro our fake protagonist is a former X employee, in the third paragraph from the bottom they are saying “We’re currently doing the same thing in Germany”.
Anyone know the term for what was described in the article as “people don’t know what’s real anymore” ?
I know the subject has long been prophesized by tech enthusiasts as the inevitable result of competing echo chambers but seeing it happen in front of our eyes hits different.
Maybe Hyperreality? Or people are just completely brainwashed these days, no critical analysis or thought
They could just be scared to release more details. Shoot I would be too. How would you do it if you had something big that you wanted to share with the world but were afraid of being put on some list or something worse? My guess would be VPN+Dark Web / Wikileaks (is there a dark web version?). Not sure if anything is full proof. I’m probably just be too weak and STFU unfortunately.
Okay, posting a screenshot of configuration file that is freely accessible for anyone with access to an AI LLM tool amounts to squat
This particular configuration file seems to post on discord doing a bare bones imitation of Donald trump. That’s not even related to Twitter
So maybe post some real evidence? Like actual X code base used to promote what they say?
Again, anyone who has used discord or worked in IT can do this same thing in minutes and take a screenshot.
Rather thin on details or encouragement of institutions (say euro ones) to contact on details for a real whistleblower…
H1B visa.
Looks like someone got their face eaten by a leopard.
How people falling for this obvious bullshit complete with spelling errors is a sad reflection of media literacy in the younger generation
I agree with what you’re saying, but what do spelling errors have anything to do with anything?
Did you miss the part about it being an H1B employee?
An actual conspiracy to alter the vote would require thousands working together in silence. That isn’t what happened.
Should be easy enough to prove wrong then. Go ahead.
Burden of proof isn’t on me. The algorithm for X is open source and anyone can verify it themselves. https://github.com/twitter/the-algorithm
so you just claimed bullshit out of gut feel alone and literally nothing else?
Is that the algorithm that they’re running in production? Do you think they have not made any changes in 2 years?
“in lieu of me providing actual evidence of what I’m alleging, please provide proof that I’m NOT telling the truth instead”
I guess twitter only has humans posting on it without any agenda then and its owners political victory is completely unrelated. Lets ignore the claim there are breadcrumbs left, makes it easier for all to win internet arguments.
J’accuse…!
Though this is something that we all assumed, a “confession” like this would have been useful 6 months ago, you know, before people voted.
Now it’s too late. What do you expect will happen? You think that President Trump will jail musk for this? Come on…
It’s a crypto scheme, they’re using this AI agent project to promote their coin. This is what crypto schemes do all the time, claiming that their coin is powered by or is powering whatever latest tech buzzword thing. Few years ago it was NFTs, then the metaverse, now it’s AI agents. It’s also extremely common for them to claim to be affiliated or funded by Elon Musk, for obvious reasons.
AI agents, especially if used like the project creators are implying through this fabricated narrative, are absolutely a threat to society. But that still doesn’t mean that this narrative isn’t fabricated.
Please, please, please, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Fact check everything, especially everything that sounds too good or too bad to be true. This is exactly how we got into the situation we’re in today, and our ability to verify information is exactly what they’re trying to take away from us.
We all saw relatives, friends and coworkers turn into conspiracy theory spouting zombies back in 2020, as they were willing to believe literally every piece of disinformation they were exposed to as long as it aligned with their fears. Then we saw many of those same people continue to spiral further into the alt-right’s destructive narrative and propaganda. We must NOT fall into the same trap. The war that we’re all fighting in today is a war for the meaning of truth.
Altering the vote would require thousands pf people working together without a single person talking about it. That isn’t likely to happen.
It is more likely Americans voted more for Trump than Harris.
I think you’re right circa a few years ago. However, as someone working in AI, I don’t think it is true any longer. I’m not saying the substack article is legit, btw, just that the fulcrum has shifted–fewer people can now do much more, aided by algorithms and boosted by AI system prompts. Especially if it’s a group internal to a company that has database access etc.
Im talking about directly changing the vote. That isn’t going to involve AI/the internet. Too much of this is verifiable offline.
Yeah, the thing about this article is that it’s extremely possible. Something even metal gear solid 2 predicted before we even reached this point.
Try looking into the actual protections in place. Most of this stuff is verifiable IRL offline and on paper for there to be direct manipulation unless ypu can get thousands of poll workers to work together in secret.
Whatever the plot of a videogame might suggest we have real ways to prevent this stuff. People voted for Trump because they believed his lies and/or wanted a change
The actual protections that have been actively worked to be dismantled constantly.
Yes they voted for him. The video game plot is irrelevant, they just talked about directing the people’s consciousness by censoring and selectively allowing information. The same thing most federated social networks are actively trying to escape, the algorithm.
In the game an AI chose what was right and wrong, creating context in a desirable light. Whether or not this article is right, it is a very real thing that is going on in the world. Not with AI, but any social media platform can skew their platform algorithms to alter what is in the populace’s consciousness.
The same way TV has been used for decades.
Did you read the article?
We completely changed how the algorithm worked, pushing pro-Trump and right-wing posts to the top of people’s feeds.
I thought this was common knowledge. Users have been talking about how everyone is getting flooded with right-wing posts on r/twitter ever since Elon took over.
Yap, same here, when I was still using it. Over the course of months, my normal feeds (mostly funny stuff) disappeared and slowly got replaced with right wing conspiracy bullshit
This also explains why he changed the name to a non-descriptive name of X.
Propaganda/information warfare 101, you want the name of your agent spreading disinformation to be as vague and as ambiguous as possible in the people’s discourse in general.
that’s a bit much, i mean he’s been obsessed with the idea of “X” since the 90s. his first company was called x dot com, he made the space company he bought change their name to space x, the most gimmicky car he could persuade Tesla to build in the early days was the model x, he has like seven x wives…
And it’s incidentally the closest ASCII character to a swastika
Oh boy, I can’t wait 'til Elon gets to do the same thing with TikTok 🤮
Confirmation at least from the inside
I went through most of the linked documentation, and the only thing that i was able to find was under https://elizaos.github.io/eliza/docs/advanced/eliza-in-tee/ in the docker-compose.yaml
... environment: - REDPILL_API_KEY=$REDPILL_API_KEY - SMALL_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet - MEDIUM_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet - LARGE_REDPILL_MODEL=anthropic/claude-3-opus ... - TWITTER_DRY_RUN=false - TWITTER_USERNAME=$TWITTER_USERNAME - TWITTER_PASSWORD=$TWITTER_PASSWORD
which tracks with elons shitty type of humor. in the screenshot “Click on the Logs tab to view the agent logs” there is a timestamp: 2024-12-07, which, if it uses american style, would give credence to the statement that elon had earlier access to the ELIZA Agent.
I didn’t find anything else, but i must admit that i am tired as hell and might have
2024-12-07 is not “American style”, it’s ISO standard date format.
And it’s great for sorting by date.
I’m sorry, I hate what Elon is doing, with twitter/X and not only, but I call bullshit on this post, at least until further strong evidence being presented.
I don’t doubt that Elon and Xitter have been pushing his political agenda one way or another, but the post specifically calls out elizaOS and links to some github website and repo which supposedly contains “bread crumbs”. All I see is an AI project that is not (directly, at least) affiliated with Elon, at least from what I could find on a quick internet search, and for sure whose employees were not X employees to be able to leave bread crumbs into. Also the supposed “bread crumb” is just some third party company/organization offering an AI agent
mockingmimicking Trump where in its “bio” it says it interfered with the election? Sorry, I need stronger proof. That third party was founded by Marc Andreessen. He’s currently staffing doge and on the board of meta. He switched to maga as he believes in accelerating tech at all costs (effective accelerationism) and has written a manifesto on it. As well as publicly commenting about convincing the public of the truth via social media. If he didn’t do what the post is claiming he would’ve wished he did.
His publicly stated goals are basically to Elysium us
I did a bit more research into this.
You’re confusing a16z (Marc Andreessen) with ai16z (the people who made this and claim affiliation with Marc Andreessen).
You’re right he’s not the founder but he is an investor and has interacted with them publicly
That is absolutely not surprising, it’s clear that this group absolutely worships the guy, and clearly he enjoys the attention. But to say this proves the narrative in the post or that he’s directly involved is still a huge stretch without actual evidence.
People should definitely be made aware of the dangers both a16z AND ai16z pose, but not by buying the conspiracy theories they’re spreading around to further their interests.
We’ve seen shit like this happen in crypto again and again and again. Every shitcoin and crypto fad comes with its own purported vision of the future it’s supposedly powering, with Bitcoin it was financial privacy and independence from traditional currency, with NFTs it was a utopia of creative ownership, with the metaverse it was a virtual capitalistic reality, with this it’s apparently some crap about accelerating progress through social engineering (basically disinformation). But really, what they’re most likely going to do, is to use chatbots to scam people into buying their coin. Because that’s all this is about.
I need to reiterate: that Substack post is literally an ad. The person claims to work for Twitter but also claims to have been provided the tool externally by Andreessen (it describes Eliza as some sort of mysterious highly advanced technology: it’s not) and then also claims to have the authority to leave publicly available “breadcrumbs” in the code of Andreessen’s tool? And then they also claim to be a junior dev who doesn’t understand the technical side of it, but also claims to have worked at Twitter on a H1B visa? Closely enough to Musk to be enrolled in this high level illegal conspiracy against the public? It’s literally badly written fiction.
Well it’s not his tool as you clarified. But we know Marc is in contact with both ai16z and musk. And would certainly like to do the things alleged.
Believe the breadcrumb he’s referring to is using Trump as the public example. Maybe the prompt correlates to bot messages posted to Twitter too.
He says ‘we left’, so he personally wouldn’t have needed the perms.
H1b doesn’t seem like a red flag to me. Plenty in my year got entry roles in FAANG in the US after their degrees and had to get h1b sponsorship. Musk got rid of most other staff and only has a skeleton crew of loyalists and h1bs. I imagine most the remaining 10% are aware intricacies of the various interference he’s demanded. (Many of which are documented outside of this).
They are ‘advanced’ in that LLMs can now trick most people when they couldn’t a few years ago. Think you’re reading too much into that there. Seems unlikely the people who want to manipulate people with chatbots would have the self awareness to create an ad like this. Maybe a leftist putting together the obvious and embellishing but seems a bit too coincidental.
His manifesto is so bad. I know he wrote Mosaic and co-founded Netscape; presumably he has some type of intelligence. But he definitely can’t write manifestos for shit. The writing is awkward and his arguments so juvenile that they mostly just made me roll my eyes.
He basically writes like someone who only took the bare minimum of required humanities courses in college and every elective was in STEM. (Which is fine! He’s obviously had success in life. He just should use some of that money to hire a writer and editor to help with his next manifesto.)
I’d be hesitant to call it bullshit, but it’s certainly not a smoking gun.
It’s fairly easy to tell there is plenty of interference from tech giants but an anonymous blog post and the existence of json character card format is not the proof I’d be looking for.
Yeah this has been online a while now and I’ve seen no attempts at providing evidence from theconcernedbird other than linking to the github that shows examples of how it can be used.
Persona Management software has been around for a long time, so it’s not even like the idea is even new, it’s just a new way of doing the old thing that’s been going down on the US internet since about 2010-2012ish.
We need actually evidence it’s being used for specifically this, not just an example of how it could be detailed in the github. The entire Republican establishment and corporate establishment function almost exclusively on the idea of “plausible deniability” it’s all about what can be proven in court, and now these groups have such massive coffers or money that almost nothing can be definitively proved in court. It’s why Musk wears his cheating and his alts and his nazi salute like medals of honor because “nyeah nyeah you can’t prove it.”
And part of the reason they act that way is because US courts have fecklessly surrendered “the justice system” to the corporate class for fifty fucking years or more, if they ever weren’t being bought by corporations. They’re legally shielded by our idiot ass broken fucking system and now they’re literally rubbing our faces in it.
Honestly, having said we need hard evidence, I’m not even 100% sure that hard evidence of this even matters anymore. It feels like the Iraq War torture leaks, and the Snowden disclosure… What changes? Nothing changes. The government was always just gonna keep doing what it did, and now Trump has taken steps to take quick control of all of that and twist it into his own dark ends.
