Mine is that the Disney+ shows should not have any impact on the movies, that they should just be on their own.

Not really. Most of the earlier movie Batman villains were rather over the top villains that may have an axe to grind but were depicted as more outright evil.

The Riddler in the The Batman honestly comes across as more of a hero in the first two acts of The Batman based on who he is targeting. All of the Riddler’s victims are causing massive harm to Gotham and the city’s political system seems unable to really address it. This includes Bruce Wayne’s complicity in the corruption of the city by being a derilect chair of the charity that is supposed to be improving the city.

If you end the movie when Batman and the Riddler are in the jail cell, you would be hard pressed to identify the Riddler as a villain; he is just a kind of vigilante that Batman is. It isn’t until the Riddler attacks Gotham as a whole when the Riddler actually becomes a villain.

Marvel movies are mostly dogshit. The Marvel multiverse is just an excuse for them to keep churning out dogshit movies indefinitely cause “LOL MULTIPLE UNIVERSES MAN, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, NO NEED TO RETCON”

Yeah, it is kind of a plot hole cheat code, but I’d rather they come up with fun new ideas under that premise, than just keep doing the same thing, or half-assing retcons like soap operas do. (That was actually Steve’s evil twin the whole time, and THIS is the real Steve)

With the first wave of movies I was really excited and enjoyed them immensely. Now the novelty has long since worn itself out. The cinematic universe plot is convoluted to a point of blandness. The multiple universe angle is stupid in comics and aggravating in cinema. The streaming series (across the board) instead of getting me interested in the movies has instead inoculated me against all of the Disney IP’'s.

Not exactly Marvel related, but I’m an adult now. Where are the movies dealing with mature themes and relatable plots?

The MCU should have ended a little after Endgame. The MCU Earth is now fundamentally different than current Earth to the point where it is harder to write resonant stories in that Earth.

That the MCU had to reach into the idea of multiverses is a symptom that the plot baggage of the MCU is now a drag on the franchise.

Not really a big reader of the comics, but from my understanding the multiverse isn’t really a fringe topic. Seems like it’s been a pretty central aspect of the comics for decades.

The only hot take for these types of surveys is: i don’t hate them.

What ever the subject is doesn’t matter. When you ask a group for input on their “hot take” devolves into a forum to shit on whatever the topic may be.

So my hot take is: I enjoy some of the movies while others I do not.

The Marvel universe is mainly there to create possibilities to make more money, not to tell a good story. Granted I have hardly seen any of the movies/series, but after Avengers I never saw a reason to. Marvel realised Avengers was good and now they pulled out as much stuff out of the universe to fill a seemingly endless stream of “storytelling”.

I felt like she-hulk could have been better. Maslany is so good, but the writing ended up being kind of bland. I guess I’d call it pretty good, too, but there’s a caveat. I also had no idea there was internet drama; that’s funny stuff.

Most of the male heroes are boring and poorly written. And yet people are more angry about the female heroes than the male ones. You can’t pretend it’s about quality at this point.

For real, they haven’t done anything interesting with Hulk in 15 years, the 2008/09 (I can’t quite remember) movie was average at best, after that it’s been a cameo fest because they cannot make new Hulk movies until they get the rights back, his best appearance was maybe in Thor Ragnarok, and yet nobody craps on Hulk.

Apart from Mark Ruffalo’s version of The Hulk, you’ll find that most comic fans do take the piss out of the previous Hulk movies.

Most comic fans do take the piss out of everything, I don’t even read that many comics and after seeing Captain America Civil War was disappointed AF, it was not only a water down version of the storyline, it was so different and the stakes were so low that made me ask myself why would they even call it Civil War to begin with.

Why I’m trying to say is that reading the comics will only make you hate more this adaptations, they rarely do justice to the characters and storyline, although that’s kinda OK since they are two different mediums.

I will respectfully disagree, I think Nolan’s Batman series was both a good comic book adaption and a great movie series that could stand on its own. Early Marvel has some really exciting storylines and characters too. My personal fav is Captain America and the Winter Soldier. I think the Marvel Netflix shows also had really strong writing and great male and female leads. I loved Daredevil, Punisher and Jessica Jones (and even Luce Cage to some extent thanks to Mike Colters portrayal). In my ideal scenario - I’d like to see epic writing that matches or surpasses this era to emerge. Whether this features an all female cast or all male, or a mix of everything in between is inconsequential to me.

What does that have to do with anything?

Thor has never been consistent. His every appearance does whatever it can to throw away the set up of his last appearance. When he was serious with a few fish out of water moments, everyone called him boring. He was better received when he became more irreverent, but this undercut every serious moment and became grating (see Love and Thunder).

Note how Captain Marvel fills a similar space as Thor originally had, being a serious cosmic hero with a few lighthearted moments sprinkled in. Note how the Captain Marvel films are better than half the Thor films. Note how much angrier people are towards Captain Marvel than they EVER have been towards Thor.

You are trying to say that male characters are just as boring as female characters yet people are madder at the female superheroes right? Then you’ve used Thor as an example, specifically of the pathetic POS he was in Love and Thunder.

Thor was successful because of the sheer charisma of Chris Hemsworth and the novelty of seeing Thor on the big screen. While after his first appearance in the original Thor film, his own movies have been of questionable quality, he’s always been an entertaining addition to the crossover movies (I’m putting Ragnarok in there too).

Brie Larson does not have the same amount of charisma (with all due respect to the actress who’s done other great stuff) to make Captain Marvel work as the next flagship Avenger. Plus at this point, the novelty of superheroes is thing of the past. Expecting her to lead the next generation of Avengers with both B/C list superheroes along with uninteresting writing is Marvel/Disney doing a great disservice to the actress.

We could have had great Thor sequels and we could have a great Captain Marvel who led the next generation of Avengers. Now we have neither, in my humble opinion this is why people are madder at Captain Marvel (as misdirected as this hate may be).

What does Brie Larson’s charisma (which could be argued either way but I won’t) have to do with the writing quality? Considering everyone blames the writing quality for her reception, as seen above. And people being tired of superheroes didn’t apply to Shang Chi or Loki, which came out AFTER Captain Marvel.

Whenever someone gives me an reason for their opinion that is provably untrue, but they don’t change their opinion, it makes me question what the actual reason is. And when I look at the bad (or even just okay) movies and look at which ones the “fanbase” is angry about, I can’t help but notice it skews towards hating the ones with female leads.

Which is not great when it comes to making compelling art (IMO), but it makes for a predictable experience with a known value which appeals to many people.

I enjoyed the MCU up until Age of Ultron. The movies are almost all from the same mold, just with different names and look and that was true even before the first Avengers film. But it was new back then. The newness has worn off and it’s way past time the MCU evolves, or retires.

The exception are the Guardians of the Galaxy series. They are better made films that actually made me feel invested in the characters. The beginning of Guardians 3 is probably the best scene in the entire MCU.

By that point all the CGI was cringe AF, I can watch giant battle scenes without my minds eye seeing all the actors pantomiming on a massive green screen set. Really, one or two impressive practical effects and I might have stuck around longer.

At least BP had a couple new plot elements and wasn’t just the same move with different beam colors. Not really new elements, but new for the MCU anyway.

Disney did what Disney does and killed it. They always take these big IPs and then stack so much bureaucracy around them that nothing ever gets done without getting approved by a committee that is approved by another committee which kills the artists original intent and messaging. They know that they can’t get experienced and talented artists to create their content anymore because they aren’t malleable enough so they either have to shove 10’s of millions down their throat or hire some wanker off the street. Then the wanker they hire off the street is always like “I don’t read the comics, lul XD!” And they right some shitty girlboss Mary Sue movie that no one likes then call all the fans racist, sexist, homophobes. Who was Agatha all along for? Some imaginary audience of post 40 wine aunts that also love marvel and pay for Disney+?

Some imaginary audience of post 40 wine aunts that also love marvel and pay for Disney+?

Who do you think writes half the stuff on AO3? This audience actually exists, and is fairly sizeable.

If it’s not for you, that’s fine. But a Marvel universe intended only for teenage boy nerds is pretty dull and repetitive; the MCU didn’t get that big by aiming solely for them.

And yeah, when you start gatekeeping, saying “those people don’t exist” and “you don’t belong here”, maybe it is time to take a look at your prejudices.
