Donald Trump on Sunday proposed a new policy that many critics said is equivalent to legalizing “The Purge.”
Trump spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania, where he admitted that his attendees were “falling asleep” at one of his earlier rallies. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign noted that, as Trump was still speaking at the swing-state event over the weekend, rallygoers placed directly behind the former president started to funnel out of the building.
One comment Trump made drew condemnation on social media, as well as numerous comparisons to The Purge, a film series based on a dystopian world in which the government makes all crimes legal for a 12-hour period.
I don’t think Trump is talking about a purge. What Teump is saying that the police should be allowed to get as violent as they want for that one hour.
You know typical dictator stuff.
Right. In a The Purge, you’d be allowed to actually defend yourself from the police.
You think trump is really that thoughtful. I swear he just word salads his way through the day. Just like his social media posts.
Usually I would say it’s better to assume incompetence than malice. It’s a much better way to relate to the world.
There are two exceptions though:
Hilarious, as if police haven’t been doing what they want this entire time. They literally rape minors they arrest and get away with it. They barely have consequences already.
It can absolutely get worse.
I don’t think so. It reads to me like, if one day of massive violence from people generally, happened, then after that the police would be given freedom to crack down severely on everything.

Yeah, that is the movie “the purge” but only legalized for US police, because US police hasn’t been violent enough yet in comparison to other police forces world wide.
So…not The Purge?
That was my interpretation too. Still lawlessness, but for the police.
And their deputies, of course. Whoever they choose to deputize.
Yep, and that is a lot worse.
At least in “The Purge” scenario, you’re allowed to fight back against the police.
The police already fairly violent now. Imagine if the police got a carte blanche do whatever they want.
