Our local bookshop used to have similar sign at the door. It’s a coffee shop now because people took that “do not enter” to heart.

its because CARD game players: yugioh pokemon, purposely not shower, and smell that way on purpose to distract other players from the game making them more likely to make mistake and lose a game. it has gotten so bad they have to implement the smell ban rule.

Ha ha lol lets insult customers!

Seriously I do not understand signs like this.

They only scold the very customers they want, while they will bounce off the customers they don’t want.

These signs are self masturbatory in nature. Just someone who wants to rant and feel better than others in a public fashion.

I fear you might be able to read, but not able to comprehend.

There are a legion of other people who also jump to insults pretending they cant understand the problem.

I fear you’re the one who is having trouble reading. The sign clearly delineates who is allowed and who is not. Wearing deodorant and showered within the last 24 hours =Welcome. No deodorant or has not showered =fuck off. How is this insulting ALL customers?

You aren’t disagreeing honestly. You’re disagreeing as if you can’t see my arguments. I wish lemmy as a platform had a “mute replies to this comment” so I could stop seeing the replies on this thread specifically. No one is arguing in good faith, they’re all, like you, masturbating to the idea of feeling superior to people rather than acknowledging the disrespect to the customers.

I can see your arguments, they are based on the incorrect presumption that this sign is insulting to all customers. It isn’t, it clearly spells out who it’s intended to disrespect. Anyone that doesn’t meet that criteria is free to walk right by.

Ill tell you what it isn’t: This.

Rude and demeaning text aimed at your customers absolutely does not help the problem.

They could try a probably still bad approach of saying the rooms are warm and so people might want to pay more attention to this.

They could have people just approach those who smell and point it out to them politely

They could have better air exchange to mitigate the problem when not caught.

There are so many options which arent this, because this simply does not work.

The only way someone would be offended by this, is if they don’t wear deodorant and are aware of their own BO, but decided it’s actually a good thing that everyone can smell it.

Wanting everyone to have a good time and not have to smell something horrible isn’t in any way narcissistic.

Thinking it’s okay to make everyone else smell your own BO, absolutely is narcissistic.

As a regular person, if I saw this I would be glad they were saying something. I wouldn’t associate myself with it because I know that I bathe regularly and don’t smell like rancid asshole. I spent a lot of time the game store in my town when I was a kid and mfers that couldn’t wash properly were absolutely a problem.

Unpopular opinion but I agree. Maybe I don’t hang around enough stinky people, but I’ve encountered far more instances of punch-in-the-face perfume/cologne than body odor.

I can buy it with no scent. I wish to fuck other people did. If you put this junk on yourself every day, and put more and more on until you can actually smell it after your olfactory nerves have been burned out by years of such abuse, think about what that’s doing to people that are actually sensitive to this shit.

Whats so what the fuck about this? Are you seriously saying you believe people smell the moment they’re out of the shower?

Are you saying people smell just from the brief amounts of heat moving from one climate controlled place to another?

Are you saying people smell before the by products that actually smell are produced by the bacteria that are abundant around sweaty regions?

This just seems like ignorance on your part.

In the mid 90’s I was with a group of union apprentices attending the mandatory four week training at our headquarters in the Midwest. They put us up at a decent hotel in the downtown area. During our stay one year they had some kind of fantasy con. Many of these people were foul smelling. They were not used to being told they couldn’t enter the elevator without getting fucked up. Some of my fellow apprentices were how shall we say it. Impulsively violent toward people who smelled like unwashed ass. After all nearly everyone of us would shower once or twice daily due to the job. The con attendees quickly learned how to use the back elevator away from our floor.

It was really kinda sad but the Navy also had a floor for their recruits to stay at while they were being processed in. Many were young women all of legal age with the navy personnel trying but not always succeeding in keeping those ladies away from forty or so young construction workers. One of their main tactics was to encourage the navy recruits to use the back elevator. In forcing those unwashed losers to the back we inflicted them on those recruits.

Some LCS’s (local card shops) are more Magic focused, some are more Pokémon focused, as well as Yugioh focused. They’ll still sell other product, but most likely have a core group of players who show up to play one type of game.

The LCS I used to go to sold everything, but it was largely known to be the spot to play MTG/have tournaments consistently versus their Pokémon days.

The one in my city is really small and fun. Whenever you go in to buy a few cards there’s always a more autistic than me kid asking me if I know this card, if not, they’ll explain, and it goes on for 45min and you can’t get away. Or the owner is there and starts to complain about the economy, his autie customers not working and being poor, about politics, about how it used to be better back then, his experience in prison (ehm ok) etc. Again, can’t leave for at least 45min. Few years ago I came there with my partner, she needed a few lands. A hoard of people came onto us. “Ooh, a girl playing magic!” We stayed there for 2 hours as we couldn’t end the conversations even though we tried many times lol.

I love it so much, places like these are super rare and awesome which should never stop to exist. Support your local game stores! Whether it’s trading cards, miniature war gaming or regular boardgames.

When you go to cons you always see these guys who are clearly spending mad cash, but they’re in a ratty t shirt and sweat pants, and they smell like unwashed ass covered in baby powder. You can play magic for 10 hours but you can’t go take a 15 minute shower???
