If a monitor exploded in front of him, he would’ve heard it before feeling the shrapnel and reacted completely different.

Why? Once again they were inept in the worst possible way. They could have got trigger happy and shot the guy before it happened or they could have fucked of completely and let him take his shot. But no, they managed the worst possible outcome, trumps a martyr and still above ground, spouting bile.
