Fascism doesn’t have to model reality, just knit together a story that confirms underlying biases of the “middle class” without questioning the system that privileged them, but is failing.

Leftists have the advantage in that we can describe exactly why your material conditions are eroding while we are more productive than ever, but for someone who was privileged under capitalism, its easier to believe the system that privileged them is good and just, its just foreigners and minorities who are exploiting them.

It would be easy like this

I will make healthcare free for everyone! We’re going to have the best healthcare in the world and billionaires are going to pay for it!

I’m going to start a federal drug program! We’re going to have the cheapest drugs in the world and no-one will have to decide between rent and their medication!

I’m going to start a national Give Parents Freedom Act, where we will provide free daycare for any parent making under 100k/year! We will pay for it by cutting the military budget by 1%!

In my first 100 days I’m going to sign the mothers are awsome executive order mandating 1 year of maternity leave for mothers and 3 months for fathers. Employers will not be allowed to fire any new parent.

I’m also going to divert ICE money into a new consumer agency called “IYCIWFYU” (If you collude I will fuck you up) their entire mission will be to investigate corporations that are price fixing and stealing money from the people.

I’m going to make digital Tax filing FREE for everyone and divert all IRS investigations into people making over 5 million per year!

        Instead we get

I’ll try to pass a bipartisan bill to maybe fix some roads… 🤷I don’t know… We’ll see what Republicans let me do 😢

I don’t think this is the whole secret because that’s basically what our left party in Germany is doing and they’re at 11 % in polls…

People are looking for an enemy image onto which they can project their frustration, and they are not willing to target the wealthy class because they irrationally hope to belong to it someday. Instead, they direct their frustration against the poorer and weaker, as it is much easier to distinguish oneself from a group that one definitely does not want to belong to.

This is class struggle from above…

Taxes are taken out of your checks before you are even paid. This isn’t practical.

I do have to wonder if everyone stopped paying federal taxes how that would fix over Trump. Like, would he admit he’s powerless against the numerous? Would he just lie and pretend the money is there? Would he just not pay the bills like he has historically done?

It’s fun to imagine what he would do facing adversity.

This ignores obnoxious hurdles in place to make the free tier as shitty as possible so people buy.

I try not to feel bad when I’m wrong. There is a whole trillion dollar set of apparatuses at work specifically evolved and designed to trick us into falling for it. I don’t judge for being wrong, but for refusing to admit it when it’s so clear it is sometimes flabbergasting. I’ve tried to see what they see to be fair to them, but they believe an election was stolen because somebody walked by a mailbox in Philly. I can’t understand that level of guillibility if someone is willing to admit they are wrong.

Fellow non-USians: no they don’t have to pay their government for the privilege of being allowed to file their taxes. “For free” here means “without the help of a tax accountant (and online)”. I was SO SO SO confused.

It’s also not as easy as it is in other countries. It seems like most countries the government knows what you owe and you just verify it. In America the government says “we know already, but you have to tell me what you owe. If you’re wrong we’re coming after you.” So it is a bit more complicated for us and since it’s more complicated we use tax prep software or hire tax agents. Some services offer(d) free federal filing and you’d just pay $10-15 for state tax. Now I imagine there’s going to be a feeding frenzy for the online services as their prices are going to increase…

Trump will do anything and everything to make sure we have to pay some rich fuck…

Oh I wasn’t dismissing this as a non-issue or anything, it’s clearly bullshit and yet another reason for you to burn cars and billionaires. But I remember when I first heard about this, specifically the “(file) for free” was INCREDIBLY confusing because as ridiculous many, many things the US does may seem to me, (what I understood as) the notion of paying your government a fee to process your taxes was juuust a bit too far out.

You CAN still do it on your own though, just not online, yeah?

Yeah you can definitely still do it on your own it’s just very complicated for anyone who has more than just a job and no investment, property, etc. like a dude with one job who rents an apartment and has nothing else would more than likely have an easy time doing it, the hardest part for them would probably be the mail since no one does physical mail anymore lol

i haven’t invested in intuit out of spite (former tax accountant here, the term you’re looking for is tax professional as there are too many worthless certs) but i’m really curious how much krasnov did. now the “easy” way to file in the US is turbotax, which is fine if you know how to answer the (intentionally obtuse) questions, which most people don’t. Now it’ll cost everyone at least $75 unless they raise their prices, which they will.

This has been the status quo for many years. Direct file with the government was released within the last few years, which is what Trump is killing.

Historically, you’ve had to pay someone like Intuit, H&R Block, or a local tax accountant to walk you through filing. Third parties that will all charge you a couple hundred dollars for the privilege, though the big firms will have online filing. You could also file purely by paper and mail, if you’re a psycho (confident that you won’t make audit-able mistakes).

If you support Free Tax Filing then you must support the Unconstitutional Anti-American Income Tax.

The Founding Fathers made a blood pact to NEVER do an income tax and ONLY raise money via Tariffs, which is the perfect and Godly way to generate tax revenues. Every president who has ever levied a national income tax has FAILED. And Trump isn’t going to fail this nation by letting people pay that tax for free.

By abolishing the free filing provision, we are going to come one step closure to guaranteeing nobody (earning more than $500k/year) has to pay it again.

You can still use free fillable forms, you can fill out the raw tax forms yourself online and can submit them online there. Not the best UI, it’s literally just the forms, but you cut out the middle man so they don’t get more money to lobby congress to keep this dumb system going. It’s also free if you make more then $85,000 , which alot of the “free” software isn’t.
