        Agreed. I just block the stuff I’m not interested in viewing in my feed and move on with my day.

        There are so many better things to reserve my ire for that someone posting their softcore fursona doesn’t make the cut, sorry to say.

        If you’re gonna hate, hate productively. Now I’m off to judge someone who pronounces it jif and not gif, should the opportunity present itself.

            Holy shit, is Gen Z the new Millennials? Gen Z is commonly agreed to be the generation born between roughly 1995 and 2012, meaning that the oldest of them would be 30.

            Existential crisis aside, my real point is that I’ve been around the internet a long time - long enough to have seen the start of hate against furries - and I’d like to take your second part and play with it in that context because I’ve heard it all before somewhere.

            For the record, I don’t “hate” furries, I won’t stop talking to someone because they’re a furry, but if you make it impossible for me to look past it, we’re probably not gonna get along.

            So let’s start with the good faith interpretation, as furry is a subculture/hobby, so we’ll replace it with something similar:

            Kind of a weird statement, as there’re weird people who take it too far in any fandom, whether that’s Marvel, trains, anime, furries, or whatever else, but not the weirdest thing to say by any means. But, knowing the history of the internet in this regard, let’s take your statement and change it to represent what the anti-furry sentiment actually is:

            For the record, I don’t “hate” gay people, I won’t stop talking to someone because they’re gay, but if you make it impossible for me to look past it, we’re probably not gonna get along.

            That’s right, the furry hatred was thinly veiled bigotry all along. There’s a reason that they used “furfag” in the old days. It’s been a longstanding thing for hating furries to be “cool” because it was an easy way for bigots to hate minorities openly. Furries have major minority populations in the fandom (I think like twice the size compared to the world? Probably even higher), and so hating on furries was an easy way to hate on minorities - especially LGBT people as the fandom is commonly connected to the LGBT community in the cultural zeitgeist. So when they said that the OP isn’t going to win, I believe it’s in relation to that history - especially the whole “it’s cool to hate furries” thing that still seems to pop up amongst young kids even today.

              Dude, that was a 4chan thing. It wasn’t about “bigotry.” Everything had fag added to the end of it. Newfag, oldfag, furfag, gamerfag… hell, I even saw gayfag thrown around a few times, though I’m pretty sure those were fully ironic since only a dolt wouldn’t realize the idiocy of it.

                And 4chan was filled with bigots. It was a major part of the alt-right pipeline that put America where it is today. Just because it was used ironically doesn’t mean that it wasn’t also used seriously. There’s a whole essay on the furry hate that revolves more around the damage done by that one CSI episode (and I’m pretty sure another similar show a few years later) that characterized furries as sexual deviants than anything else, but the use of the 4chan furfag moniker was also a part of it, and that spread outside of 4chan.

                4chan for its part, though, really proved the saying “say something ironically enough times and eventually you start saying it unironically.” Although that’s less related to the furry thing and more to the whole edgy teenagers posting racist jokes growing up to scream about Jewish space lasers creating climate change.

              I love the LGBTQ community and am often mistakenly assumed to be a part of it, to which I take zero offense (and usually don’t bother correcting).

              People that make every aspect of their personality revolve around being gay annoy me and I usually don’t associate with them.

                  I don’t really care what you think it sounds like. I let the people who actually know me and myself be the judge of my character. If you spent 45 seconds in the same room as me you’d feel pretty silly for implying my homophobia.

            most furries are normal about their hobby is the overall point here, and one that i have seen spread like wildfire online the lat 5 or so years. i have seen furry posts on TikTok receive a ton of attention and all the comments are some variation of “why did people hate furries?” or “furries seem cool.” it might be cringey but being cringe is not embarrassing anymore. catch up. it’s freeing.

              I was gonna write a response to this but it was pretty much just a rephrase of my other response. tl;dr I don’t hate furries as mentioned and idc if you’re amongst the “normal about their hobby” crowd but in more than one instance I’ve encountered people very not normal about their hobby and I choose not to associate with them. 🤷🏾‍♂️

                To be fair, there are people like this, probably also on these forums, about almost every hobby. Gun nuts, programmers, “sweaty” card/board/video gamers, etc.

              I mean that’s ok lol. I have a small number of former and current friends that are or were furries, they wear their foxtail keychain and have their drawings as their phone background and we go about our business. At my college, I had two classes with someone who was not so subtle, and would somehow always find a way to talk about their fursona… that’s their business, I don’t hate them for doing it, but they’re not the kinda person I wanna hang out with.

              If that makes me a bigot I’m generally not a very good one.

        furry hate in 2005 was 100% homophobia lol it’s never really gone away either. it’s largely that nowadays too. it’s a way to hate queer people without outwardly hating queer people. they think we don’t see it. it’s also just dumb as hell and a waste of your one life spend any amount of time literally hating people for a hobby that involves playing pretend and using their imagination. oh no, the horror, they can access something you can’t anymore.

    as someone who’s barely watched any anime and doesn’t really get furries at all… uh, what. of all the things people can be into, these are the some of least relevant to one’s opinions.

    someone who has “AI” “art” as pfp? someone who has a flag as their pfp? someone with greek statue or roman soldier as pfp? tell you so much about the person and how fucking worthless their opinions must be. furries? they’re just into anthropomorphic animals for some reason dude, i don’t care.
