I don’t see how this supports your point then. If “setting up proxy” means “packaging it to run on thousands user machines” then isn’t there obvious and huge potential for a disastrous fuckup?

Ente is as close as you can get to Google Photos with E2EE right now. I recently migrated there. The migration wasn’t painless and involved some scripting to handle albums and duplicates but the service itself is really good. Can recommend!

I really hope this happens. NFC payments are the only thing that keeps me from switching to GrapheneOS. Seeing how the situation with big tech unfolds, it’s not impossible that I will decide to give up this convenience though.

I used Samsung until about a year ago and now use Pixel since that time. Pixel software experience is infinitely better for my tastes and needs.

I’m pretty sure I have aphantasia. My mom, on the other hand, is an artist with very powerful imagination. She would often tell me how she sees something she’s imagining and I never really knew what she meant. I just assumed that it’s kinda a figure of speech. Only when I first read about aphantasia I realized that it probably really works completely differently for her.

I would like to know whether aphantasia has any practical impact on one’s life. For example, I had this suspicion that differences in my “mental image processing pipeline” might be a factor in my terrible driving skills. Quick visual assessment of the traffic situation, at an intersection for instance, is very hard for me. This is just me making stuff up though, no idea if it makes any sense. In fact, I think I’m going to research this topic and look for some papers now!

Of course I’m exaggerating for humoristic effect but in all seriousness I think the whole action is extremely poorly executed. I would be surprised if there weren’t some cases of people actually losing something important because of this.

Wait, so Google just moved around important users’ files on their devices without being asked to do so. And now they decided to just delete those files together with the feature? This sounds pretty crazy, even for Google.

Recently I like to play some Twitch streams in the background when I’m not doing anything requiring a lot of focus. It makes me feel like I’m not really alone at home without any social effort on my side. You definitely have to find a right streamer for you though - most of Twitch is garbage in my opinion.

Someone mentioned going out to eat or sit at some cafe which I also like to do sometimes.

I see that Framework and System76 were already mentioned. I would add Slimbook and Tuxedo Computers to the list.

I was just in a market for a Linux laptop and I really wanted a Framework but it’s not available in my country so I settled on Slimbook Executive 14 instead. I have it for around a month now and I’m very satisfied.
