Isn’t post-quantum cryptography already a thing? Probably not implemented in anything meaningful yet, but still.

I mean, you can still do that with https, your dns requests will likely still be in the clear unless you’re using dns over tls or dns over https.
I would agree with you that something similar to metric would eventually arise, but I would consider duodecimal to make more sense than decimal, as 12 is a superior highly composite number and the terminating representation is much shorter for more commonly used fractions (e.g. 1⁄4 would be represented as 0.3, 1⁄3 as 0.4, 1⁄2 as 0.6, etc). I would also argue that groupings in powers of 12² make more sense than 10³.
I would also argue that it would make more sense for measurements to be based on natural units (such as Planck length) for all the basic measurements (second, metre, kilogram, ampere, kelvin, mole, and candela), such that the anthropic unit (the one you’d most commonly refer to without prefixes) would be some multiple of 12 away from the natural unit.
Sounds painful with a high possibility of breaking bones then drowning while conscious. I’d recommend an inert gas that’s not CO2 and readily available, like nitrogen or something (CO2 buildup in the blood is what gives the sensation of suffocation). If you’re worried about people finding you and a mess, get an enema and stay a bit dehydrated first, and also ensure your body’s found within the first 2-3 days if possible (the first thing your corpse does is shit itself, and rot sets in pretty quickly).
This of course presumes you’re making the decision to end yourself while of sound mind, not in some panic, feeling trapped or completely hopeless. There’s usually a way out that’s not as permanent and can lead to future positive interactions that make continued living worth the pain. That said, I’ll never judge someone whose pain outweighs their will to live.
I’ve always wanted to try both of those.
Yep, I drink mead, i.e. honey wine. It’s really good, doesn’t give me as much of a headache as beer these days. Sometimes it’s too sweet, I haven’t found a good dry one around here though.
I played around with Gentoo a few years ago, got it working but then got annoyed with some binaries taking too long. Wanted to build a machine I couldn’t hack though, and now there’s a repo with precompiled bins if you ask portage nicely, so I figured I’d give it a shot again. Maybe it was the mead but I forgot to do that for gcc though. oops
What a coincidence, I’m drinking mead and installing Gentoo. Currently compiling gcc, always takes forever, maybe I should’ve gone with the recompiled binary for that one lol.
No ragrets.
Part of me is still half-convinced that there are whole galaxy clusters of antimatter that are simply too far away from other clusters to produce any noticeable gamma rays, and the reason they didn’t interact near the beginning of the universe is the same reason the whole thing didn’t collapse into a super massive black hole: we don’t know yet, but probably along the same lines as dark energy. A lot of it did probably interact though and that’s where a lot of the CMB comes from.
I’m definitely a lay person though, I’m sure an actual physicist can tell me that’s definitely not the case, I just don’t know why not yet.
You’re talking about Hellenistic Judaism, which was definitely a thing for a century or two leading up to Christianity, and it’s thought to have been subsumed into it. It’s not an unreasonable theory given that Greek mythology was familiar with the concept of demigods.
It’s the commenter’s username.
lol. lmao, even.
I quote this at my kids sometimes.
I mean it was 0.01, at that point he was screwed anyway, and he fixed his program.
37 is my favorite, because 3x7x37=777 (three sevens), and I think that’s neat.
Reminds me of a tweet I saw once:
Unlike you jaded pessimists I still have the ability to feel optimistic about something even after a lifetime of disappointment. And you know why? Because I’m stupid.
The only other fast way to fight it is with violence, but without clear national unity and already decent leadership it usually results in some form of autocracy, making the situation worse.
It’s $193M in stock, which can only be cashed out once Reddit IPOs, thus the drive to do so. Aside from that he gets a “mere” $600k/yr. He can probably borrow against that to a certain point, but I’m not sure a bank would value assets that can’t be liquidated.
One of the reasons I was able to argue my ADHD was impacting my life negatively was the fact I was drinking enough coffee to hurt my health just to feel human and I still had executive dysfunction, so stimulants would be more effective and overall work as harm reduction. Now I’m not even on stimulants (technically), I’m finding bupropion works best for me. I still have a small cup of coffee in the morning, as it keeps me regular.
Never dehumanize fascists or fascist-sympathizers (redundant but ok), it’s always important to remember that bad faith actors or their stooges are human and cannot be entirely eliminated from society, which is why people that fight for positive change have to set the rules such that bad faith actors’ actions are either quickly recognized and mitigated, or have society structured such that even those motivated solely by unempathetic selfishness can only achieve status by masking and contributing positively anyway.
