If your computer can connect to the network, then network devices can connect to your computer. A switch just allows there to be more devices, all connected to the same network.

It’s passed off as being an authentic ‘found tape,’ or at least it was on release. Creator made a whole story behind it with an authentic looking website and all. If it wasn’t made to look real it definitely fooled a lot of people on accident.
