Not sure why you are getting downvoted, pretty much everyone is also saying they aren’t going to donate for one or other reason.

Ironic considering the pinned post on .world is the admins asking for donations and pretty much everyone is saying “no”
The comments are a full microcosm showcasing why Lemmy will stay underground and it will never overtake reddit
Oh boy, where do I even begin:
Federation. People have no idea what it is, which means that they have to familiarize themselves with all these technical concepts just to create an account.
Servers. Most mastodon servers are locked, and you have to petition the admins to let you in, which often implies waiting more than a day. In other sites, you can create an account in 5 seconds, so mastodon is at a disadvantage.
Lack of an algorithm. This implies people won’t see the content they like, which means they have to go and actively look for content. Most people don’t want to spend time doing that, they just want to log in, laugh at funny memes ans look at pretty pictures.
Make mastodon more accessible then.
Yes. People don’t realize algorithms are one of the main reasons decentralized sited haven’t taken off. Most people don’t want to spend time looking for their content, they just want to log in, laugh at funny memes and look at pretty art
Even then, how many people actually left their Twitter accounts?
I can’t tell how many times I’ve seen people say “I’m leaving Twitter” only to come back after a month
That’s the normal stance on Lemmy.
It was founded by communists, so you’d better get used to it
There are a lot of artists on pixelfed, but lack of an algorithm makes finding them very difficult
Lack of an algorithm makes finding new content much more difficult. And most people don’t want to spend time actively looking for stuff, they just want to log in, laugh at funny memes and look at pieces of art.
Also go forbid you have any criticism towards Linux.
“Tankies”
The irony with this is that Lemmy was founded by communists and it follows a lot of communist principles.
People expect to pay a carpenter or a plumber for their services, why shouldn’t entertainers and content creators be allowed to get paid for their work?
It is kinda bad. Especially when it comes to finding content or getting noticed
Which is why it’s a big irony when people come to Lemmy to complain about communism/socialism.
Like, man, you are on a decentralized network run by volunteers who don’t want to be monetized. You want to enjoy the benefits of socialism but somehow keep capitalism
If something bad came from the Soviet dissolution (besides the extreme decline of living standards in many of those countries) is that it completely killed any left-wing ideals in the west. Unions, welfare and common good were seen as “defeated” ideas, because capitalism had won. People still haven’t recovered from the “capitalism won” mentality, so anything that comes even close to left wing is immediately shut down
You can tell redditors are flooding in when you find absolutely braindead takes like this.
Funny, because I still see democrats blaming pro-palestine protestors for her loss
Who told you that? The only one who is still on Israel’s side is the US
Functionally there’s no difference.
The person I replied argued that you are obligated to donate if you want to keep Lemmy free. Right now the Lemmy developers are asking for donations, and people are saying no.
The developers are openly communist, and if you want to use Lemmy you’ll have to learn to live .ml, it’s not going to change.
