Of course I am referring to info my teammates would know too. Are you inferring that it’s fine that big corporations are profiling you based on what you’re chatting with your friends about?

To all the people in this thread hyping Linux. Please remember that those screenshots capture you as well if you play with windows users. If this becomes a staple and you refuse to be AI fodder, then multiplayer is pretty much dead to you.

In theory this is awesome. Humans aren’t built for menial tasks. All repetitive monotonous tasks should be automated. However, this doesn’t fit our current economic system. Obviously all automation needs to be taxed, so that we don’t have to live this paradox where each technological advancement is a risk to our livelihood.
You can use filen.io, which I like. It’s based in Germany and GDPR compliant.
Their app is on github, so you could use obtainium to manage it: https://github.com/FilenCloudDienste/filen-mobile/releases/tag/v3.0.25
It’s the next big hope for a browser engine besides the 3 current ones, powering chrome, firefox and safari
Their github: https://github.com/servo/servo
I assume he’s talking about the DNS resolver within the app. Mullvad has a couple options: https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls
It works just fine for me btw, even when blocking ads and trackers
I use XMPP and it’s good. SimpleX is even better at anonymising meta data afaik

I would love to get back into hosting songs locally again, but I’ve grown too reliant on algorithms for music discovery. Is anyone aware of an app to automatically download songs from certain sources based on algorithm? Picard could do the last mile to organize the downloaded files neatly

I use Track & Graph from F-Droid for a similar purpose. I noticed pretty quickly that the data I want to track just isn’t generic enough to find a tailored app for it. So I setup several reminders through the app to enter the various measurements at set points in time each day and get a nice graph to dislay it.

Is there a specific reason you’re using an old english / icelandic symbol instead of “th”?

Now more than ever people will have to choose between privacy and comfort. And not to be a dick, but now more than ever, people choosing comfort are fucking over people who choose privacy.

It helps to read the post body as well

I don’t think privacy enthusiasts use vanilla Android. People will stick to Lineage/Graphene for as long as it works and then switch to something like Postmarket. It’s already in a state where it’s rough but usable.

Call me a conspiracy nut job , but I honestly think we live in a new age where it’s the other way around. Megacorps are creating a situation where governments are set up to fail and then swoop in to save the day “alien earth” style, so everyone can be forced into lifetime indentured service.

While I full heartily agree with you, I’m pessimistic you will ever reach enough people with these alternatives. Even on privacy forums you hear people fervently defending how banking apps are mandatory. Those will never run on anything that isn’t locked down. The eID proposal for the EU is also dependent on Android and iOS.

Signal is nice because it has a pretty good adoption rate even with non techies (which is why they’ve been mentioned by name in the chat control proposal). But privacy enthusiasts will still have briar/simplechat/xmpp. Those aren’t centralised like Signal and will be a lot harder to regulate

Doesn’t Signal work with phone numbers? They will probably block every EU number from accessing the service to protect themselves legally. Maybe you could use something like jmp.chat to circumvent that? Probably need a VPN as well to mask your IP. In any case, it will decimate the user base, so you’re left chatting with yourself anyway.

Have a look at the world views of tech billionaires like Larry Ellison and Peter Thiel. They’ve been going on about control of peoples digital life for at least a decade now, even before the popularisation of LLMs. These guys are laying the brick work for a deus ex style corpocracy.
Having this info because of legitimate needs to provide a service and a third party processing it with AI without explicit consent for their benefit is a huge difference.
