Adopting kids ain’t easy. People always say “you could just adopt” but they don’t realize just how much expense is involved. It could easily cost $50k.

This happened to me. I got a PhD and expected to be able to get a tenure track job in academia. Sure, it’s hard. But it wouldn’t be me that failed at it, right? Wrong. Three years later, no job, scraping by on adjunct work.

I went back to law school. Sometimes you have to redefine your life in a way that gives you new opportunities. Does it still hurt that I couldn’t get my dream job? Yeah, but I have a lot of good I can do for the world in other ways, and I’m not going to let that dream’s death prevent me from doing it.

The idea that Arizona would have"federal only" voters because they refuse to just let people vote for state races according to federal rules is so fucking stupid. Talk about creating a bureaucratic mess for no gain to the citizenry!

Absolutely nothing about this case is a mere reiteration of anything before it.

All Biden has to do is claim that it’s an official act, because Trump is a terrorist, a threat to the Constitution, or some other questionable legal pretext. The problem is that there’s no remedy against such a claim. It could be litigated and go to SCOTUS again, who would have to decide whether it’s an official act or not. But this ruling gives no definite rule on what does or does not count as an official act.

Drop. The. Fuck. Out. You are going to fucking lose you geriatric fuck and SCOTUS just ensured that Trump will use his power to be a dictator when he’s elected.

No one could watch the videos and come away with this take you’ve constructed. He obviously is retreating in both videos. And carrying a gun in the open is not a provocation to violence. Not is it illegal in Wisconsin.

No one alleged that Rittenhouse pointed the gun at anyone before he was charged. You need to reexamine your priors on this one.

Let me preface this with: Rittenhouse is a shithead and his politics are shit. But: have you watched the videos? If you’ve got a gun and someone tries to grapple with you, that is now a life or death situation. If you let them take your gun, you could very well be dead. It’s not a surprise that the jury acquitted him. Both shootings were demonstrably self-defense. I’m sick of us lefties falling for the same type of knee-jerk propagandistic nonsense the right always falls for.

One thing I’ve been annoyed with after switching to Firefox is the iffy password manager performance. It’s so common for it not to remember a password that it should, or, weirdly, for it to only remember the password once I’ve typed the whole username in and hit tab.

I’ve been working every day since January. Every weekday, every weekend day, every day. But finally on June 15th I’ll be down to one remote job and can go sailing for a few weeks straight. I’ve finally sort of got my finances in reasonable shape, I’ve paid off my car, and have a little breathing room.
