What the heck? The thumbnail loads and animates, but if I click on it, it says “comment not available”
This happens to me somewhat frequently in Connect. I have yet to learn why.
Maybe the thumbnail is cached somewhere in Lemmy.

Maybe in the fact that the Chinese citizens can’t criticize their own government for fear of being disappeared. Their only avenue is to criticize ‘the west’.
It’s sad watching these types say anything at all about hypocrisy.
But chinese people have protests all the time. Do you think they all get disappeared? Or did the media make that shit up so you don’t feel bad about the US doing the same shit? I remember journalists getting hacked under the Obama admin, random people getting black bagged during 2020. And those were the rare moments where protest movements were effective enough to warrant more direct measures. 99% of the time it’s unnecessary as the media is quite effective at shutting down criticism of the government. Just look at the coverage of student protests.
