So just a moment ago, I am trying to sign up for Crunch Fitness because I saw that they had a grand opening in a location near me. Great, because I actually want to go to a gym to try and get back in shape.

And I had a 6-month freebie from where I work from the offers I am given so I think this is the perfect opportunity to get into this. And I was about to sign up as a new member to get this perk. So I jot all the information down and all that, until I got to the card.

I use Floorp which is a Firefox alternative and it infuriates me to begin with how this thing keeps forgetting my payment details. But it decided to do so here again. That means I now have to go on a stupid adventure to verification-land with Google to figure it out what the number of my card was.

I open Google Play because it has my payment info, but it only shows me the last four digits. And everytime I so much want to gaze or edit my payment info, I have to waste minutes for Google to tell me that it wants me to view my assigned security number. To do that, I had to grab my phone, go to Google, go to Manage Privacy and Data, go to Security and then find the stupid code.

But that wasn’t that simple. No, it notified me “HAY! WOULDN’T IT BE COOL IF YOU SET YOUR PHONE SECURITY UP WITH A PIN OR A PATTERN?!”. What the fuck does THIS have to do with Google and getting my code?! Nothing!

So fuck it, fine, I’ll make a stupid pin that I’ll have to come back and remove because I am a user who likes quick access and not to be hindered by such things. I rarely have security issues on my phone for years.

I do that, only to find that the Google Payments only told me the last 4 digits of my card. When I was expecting to see the whole thing since it is only me now viewing it. What the fuck? Why can’t you just show me?!

Fine, so I go to my bank’s website because I know they’ll show me. Sign in, go to Cards, had to wait a bit for a stupid video to play as it is connecting with my cards, wow SOOOOOOO fancy! Unnecessarily fancy. So it fucking connects and I can see - wait no! - I need to have a security token verification sent to my fucking e-mail. FUCKING HELL!!

I fucking do that and FINALLY I can fucking see the fucking numbers of my fucking card after having to fucking go through all of that horseshit when Floorp could’ve just have fucking been useful and auto-filled my payment information so I didn’t have to go through this shit!

Oh yeah and when I finally filled out the payment card info, I am presented a fucking CAPTCHA before finalizing the fucking purchase! Fuck this shit!

Fuck Floorp, Fuck Google and fuck this hassle!!

I agree with you generally, but we are misaligned on a few details. Firstly, I use LibreWolf rather than Floorp, and I specifically do not use it to store payment accounts. Second, if I need my card number, I make sure to just have my card with me for major purchases (gym membership is major). Third, anything that wants MFA, I just don’t use. Sure, there’s a lot of mainstream services I don’t use, but I honestly don’t see an issue with that.

A lot of whinging about a very easy skill-check.

You should just get an iphone if it’s really that hard for you

Step 1: take card out from wallet

    Step 2: profit

Also, saving payment info on your phone and then refusing to use some bare minimum security measures, it’s like your asking to be stolen from.

Yeah I’m kind of confused why entering your card info on a website is that difficult for OP.

Step 1: Realize that not everyone’s wallets is in close proximity to them at all times you think it is.

Step 2: Blatantly assuming this was all done on a phone makes you look ignorant.

      Step 3: Profit.

1 sounds like a you problem.

2, oh my, don’t know how I possibly reached that conclusion.

Nothing!

You reached that conclusion because you’re incoherently illogical. No where did any of those snippets detailed that I did all of this on the phone. For all you know, having to go grab my phone for the security codes was a requirment. I did the majority of this - on a desktop.

          Now piss off, blocking.

Crunch uses scammy tactics to stop you from canceling. They lied to me twice to my face. Tried to charge me a fee too on cancel. Can also only cancel in person at the original signup gym. Pick a better business to deserve your money.

If you’re the kind of person who already uses keepass, probably nothing. Most of the time it’s best to just recommend bitwarden and not mention keepass, because the ux and auto sync make it better for average skilled users and the lazy.

I’m not an expert on keepass. Bit warden is open source and free though (unless you want to get 2fa). I’m sure there are comparisons between the two out in the wild Internet

KeePass is too. But it has no cloud support. However, I actually prefer this, just syncing may password database between my devices using syncthing. I read that bitwarden seems to have a bit more modern UI and is easier to use, but as I am used to KeePass I am happy with it. I guess both solutions are fine!

There so much forced 2fa where it’s not required. Its awful. Phones should not be required.

Phones are not required for 2fa.

And everyone should be using it now.

Being lazy and technologically stupid and saying fuck this fuck that because you had to spend 3 minutes doing something other than playing games or scrolling socials is immature.

I’ll take my downvotes but there’s your real take.

Payment info is a good use case for 2fa though. Personally, I use vaultwarden to hold my payment details. Open source and I choose my log in requirements, although 2fa is required at least once. From then on, fingerprint on my phone is fine or pin on a browser.

Sure if the account stores my payment info it should have 2fa but a lot store nothing valuable and are 1 time uses yet still require 2fa.

My phone broke last week. The only way to login or to have customer service look at my account is to have a text message sent to my phone. Its so stupid!! I had to drive to the store 4 times!!!
