Most people that oppose Trump also follow an ethical code that abohrs violence.
The talking points among people I know here include constantly referencing a study that indicates non-violent opposition is more frequently effective than violent opposition. I suspect that study is a little simplistic, but may have its point.
The problem is, a lot of liberals think that showing up for a 14 June style protest (with permits and police escort) is the full extent of ‘non-violent’ resistance.
It’s taking them a minute to catch on that more, much more, will be needed.
The next step has to be introducing other non-violent tactics - ones that are far less pleasant than bringing a sign to a giant street party on a Saturday afternoon.
Tactics that might involve being arrested (despite not attacking anyone), losing income or your job (work strike), or ending up in a detention facility.
No one wants to do this. This is like getting a cancer diagnosis and not wanting chemo, not wanting to count your expected remaining life in months instead of decades.
Most people will do what most people do - ‘see how it goes’. Until they can’t anymore.

If you are a bible-follower and friendly towards homosexuals, then I guess you’re skipping over that part where it says “homosexuality is an abomination”.
That’s one of the many reasons I can’t look to the Bible for guidance. I have some gay friends and they deserve all the love and consideration everyone should get.
To those that say the Bible deserves to be followed, but exclude the parts where it says homosexuality is an abomination, I wonder what other parts you ignore? AFAIK, one isn’t supposed to flip through the Bible and pick and choose which sections should be followed.
This is one of the many reasons why I consider the Bible immoral, and following it either immoral or morally and logically inconsistent.

Paul mentions homosexuality, but Paul is very notably not Jesus, he’s basically just a guy who rolls up after Jesus is dead and says he’s an apostle now. There’s also significant cultural context there, and his objection to sex applied to all recreational sex regardless of orientation.
The Old Testament also mentions homosexuality. I am not sufficiently educated on Hebrew culture to comment on those passages, but I do know that Christians are very explicitly not bound by Old Testament law.
I hope everyone here is aware that fascism has now taken hold in America and never before in the history of mankind has fascism stepped down when politely asked to do so.

Part of the momentum behind Mamdani’s primary win in NY is the foundational movement building that Bernie and AOC have been doing for years, and particularly with the fight oligarchy tour. This is not nothing; NY mayor is one of the most important positions we could capture, even if it’s not radical.
I agree that we don’t have time for these mainstream do-nothing Democratic politicians like Cory Booker, Hakim Jeffries, and Chuck Schumer. Fuck em. But if we organize and fight, we can make electoral strategy a key part of our agenda and actually win. Elections are not the only space where we can fight and win too!
Let’s not be overly optimistic OR pessimistic at this point. We’re getting close, but we’re not there yet. I think we can still turn this around without organizing militias, even though it absolutely constitutes legitimate self defense at this point.

That’s ok, neither do most “Christians”. So many people who identify as Christians only ever ‘read’ the bible on Sunday’s when the preacher tells them to open to a specific chapter and verse, that way they can spin an out of context narrative and get them to believe whatever it is the preacher/pastor/priest wants them to believe.
If more people actually read the bible there would probably be a lot fewer Christians, especially the Old Testament that evangelicals love to quote to justify their bigotry. It’s basically one long racist and xenophobic justification for genocide and colonialism, and people are still being brutally murdered over it to this very day.
Edit: a lot of Christian denominations even go so far as to specify exactly which translation of the bible that their members are allowed to buy. In the case of my families church 'Apostolic Pentecostals" that would be the “King James Version”, a terrible translation that is over 420 years old and written in a language that is basically not spoken any longer. The reason? Most of the people in their congregation were/are barely literate. If they were allowed to use a modern translation they might be able to understand just how twisted the church’s narrative actually is.
