You don’t even need to drill it in the bottom. Our can has a hole at the top just below the rim which works the same. The air can find its way out but it can’t do the 180 degree turn around the rim especially if the bag makes a good seal around the rim.
drill a couple small holes in the bottom of the bin – provides air escape when filling bag and full bag easily lifts out without lifting whole bin
I recently had to replace my kitchen bin and the new one came with the holes pre-drilled

Good. I hate bags that keep that previous garbage juice to themselves.
Tbf the holes are about 10cm up the side, so unless you’ve got a disturbing amount of juice, both scenarios are covered
All fine until someone puts something liquidy in your bin. Rather have the binjuice cointained.
If you put the holes about 2 cm up on the sides you get the juice contained while still getting air flow.
