Dazhon Darien, a physical education teacher and the athletic director at Pikesville High School in Maryland, created a fake audio recording of the principal spewing hateful comments, authorities say.
A Maryland high school teacher was arrested after he used artificial intelligence to create phony audio, planting racist and antisemitic words into the voice of his boss, officials alleged Thursday.
Dazhon Darien, a physical education teacher and the athletic director at Pikesville High School, was accused of falsifying the voice of principal Eric Eiswert in January, authorities said.
“We now have conclusive evidence that the recording was not authentic,” Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough told reporters in Towson. “It’s been determined the recording was generated through the use of artificial intelligence technology.”
Has it? I really haven’t heard people make a “that wasn’t me, it was AI” claim until pretty recently until it was clear they were completely insane.
I mean AI voice replication hasn’t even been a thing most people have had access to for years. It’s very recent.
Some politicians have made a couple flaccid claims about legit recordings. Guess their party affiliation lmao
Even those have been pretty recent though, right?
Yea, I believe they occurred some time last year

That’s a guide for how to it from 2020.
It’s become accessible to the average user and of a consistently higher quality but any tech person could’ve already done this stuff years ago.
And yet people weren’t actually doing it much years ago. Now they are. Hence this court case and hence this asshole giving actual bigots ammunition.
How do you know they weren’t?
All that is different today is that more common and easier. This guy wasn’t the first to do this, nor did he invent the technology.
He hasn’t given actual bigots an excuse they already had.
Feel free to show me that bigots were claiming on a regular basis that AI was making it sound like they were saying bigoted things years ago.
