Wow. Another example of Google on the cutting edge. 🙄
Google maps won’t even give me the closest chain store when I search. Directions to the target 13miles away and not the one 1 mile away. That would need to be fixed in order to provide the closest charger for my ev. It’s google so nothing will get fixed
Or you get a sponsored store result in the first 5 no where near you.
Obligatory have you tried OpenStreetMap?
Btw car chargers are being added to OSM as well
I don’t understand why if need AI to find a charger on a map. It’s not like the charger has legs where it gets up and moves to a new location every other week.
The article says nothing about AI; just that EV charger location and availability is a feature being added to Google Maps.
Sorry. I assumed it was one of the other announcement articles I saw today mentioning AI.

The ML tool is a summary of the directions. That’s a plausible use of ML

Everyone with an EV is already using plugshare, but thanks I Guess
The value is that it shows people who aren’t using EVs yet what’s available
How about adding speed limit without a destination, showing house/building numbers around you, traffic overlay without a destination, allow voice response to if reported hazards/speed traps/whatever is still there, better lane assistance, turn or which side the destination is on preview on the turn before so you know which lane to be in? Maybe a Recents list that doesn’t seem like it’s just a shuffle of a few random locations you’ve been to maybe once in the last 6 months?
Maybe some of that has been added somewhat recently?
How about audio alerts for hazards and speed traps ONLY!
Isn’t that already an option - alerts only?
What other alerts pop up? KFC ahead?
Alerts only includes upcoming turns/exits. I don’t want audio notifications of turns or exits. Only speed traps and hazards.
There’s that midway sound setting that only makes noise if you screw up, but not every little turn. That also alerts for those things in my experience. It also welcomes me when I cross a state line which I think is sweet 😊
How about if you have a destination, find me a rest area/restaurant/whatever that is on the route. Not just around somewhere.
You can pretty well? The search along route feature works pretty well, sure there are a few things a little out of the way but not much
Would also love to have just an ETA without directions. I usually don’t need them commuting or going about town, but I keep them up anyway to keep track of time. Would love just an ETA widget.
They’d have to know where you’re going, and an eta only works if you follow the path it thinks you’re going to be taking. The best you can probably do is directions, but mute the alerts.
Sure hasn’t! Would be nice to add speed traps and hazards from Android auto too
Maybe they’ll replace it with a few of the features of Waze but without ads, adds stuff that have been asked for by people for years and the Google Maps look, call it Google Ways and act like it’s going to be continued to be developed as Google Maps 2.0. Then Google Maps goes away but Google Ways never gets updated with anymore features.
All the competitors on the market lose a large part of their customer base now.
Then one day Google Maps makes a reappearance to replace Google Ways. You can now select an icon to represent your car but otherwise, it has no Waze features and has less features than the original Google Maps but they promise they’ll be porting those features over. They never do.
That’s pretty much the kind of thing I expect from Google.
Traffic overlay without a destination has existed for years…
On mobile apps? I just looked at a couple samplings of highways and there’s nothing. I started an actual route same area and it shows traffic density on the highway. I think Kid_Thunder is correct, it doesn’t show road usage if you don’t have a destination specified. Is what your saying for the web site specifically?
It does. Tap the Overlay button (above the compass) and enable Traffic.
Ah sometimes it’s just knowing an option is there. Thank you kind internet stranger
I wish it also showed the speed limit of the road you’re on even if you’re not actively navigating.
