It seems like your personal views are a lot more right-wing than normal on lemmy.ml. While you may see yourself as a centrist or leftist, that is not the case for others.
You might feel more at home on a different instance, like lemmy.world. Not only would local posts & users be more aligned with your own politics, you could also avoid the stigma/stereotypes associated with this instance. Even if you move to another instance (Lemmy server), you’ll still be able to interact with most other instances, though some defederate from (block) some other instances.
To the contrary, I welcome criticisms my views in order to know whether they are correct or need adjusting. If you belong to a group in which everyone thinks the same, you will learn nothing. It’s called groupthink. From https://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/groupthink.asp
Groupthink is a phenomenon that occurs when a group of individuals reaches a consensus without critical reasoning or evaluation of the consequences or alternatives. Groupthink is based on a common desire not to upset the balance of a group of people.
This desire creates a dynamic within a group whereby creativity and individuality tend to be stifled in order to avoid conflict.
You haven’t actually taken any criticisms on board though, you’ve just ignored them and copy pasted the same comments again.
To go centrist they need to move to the left ·_·
If this means they’re less conservative, good.
Republicans are conservative. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party is too far to the left. Democrats must move toward the center in order to attract more voters. Note the centrist candidate in Romania just won.
The Republican and Democrat parties are both conservative these days, leaving people who aren’t conservative with no representation. It makes more sense to me for each party to offer a clear alternative, instead of both supporting the same policies to attract the same voters and leaving everyone who doesn’t agree with those policies disenfranchised.
No, Democrats are liberal and Republicans conservative. Take immigration. Biden let in a flood of illegal migrants. In contrast, Trump has closed the southern border and is deporting all illegal migrants in the US. The US needs a centrist candidate.
Note that the centrist candidate in the US just ate shit
In the 2024 presidential election, there was no centrist candidate. Trump was to the right and Harris to the left.
Lol no. Harris was to the right and Trump was to the far right.
No. Harris said that she wouldn’t change anything that Biden did. So, her views were identical to Biden’s.
Yes, and Biden was right wing
If Biden who permitted a flood of illegal migrants is right wing, what is Trump?
This is the opposite of that. They’re shopping around for a more conservative candidate and calling that “centrist”. They called Obama too left. The guy whose most notable achievement was passing a rebranded Republican healthcare bill (which Republicans still treated like it was the most progressive socialized single payer system ever despite it being just about the polar opposite).
Ugh. I was afraid of that.
As the article said Josh Shapiro and Andy Beshear would be considered centrist.
The article is definitionally incorrect, simple as
By Nazis maybe
Lol, somewhere centrist between the old status quo and full-on fascism. Good to see their still supporting their donors.
It would be a smart move by Democratics. People prefer centrist views over extreme left or right. In Germany, the centrist candidate won.
What’s your excuse for being this stupid?
The Dems would have to move left to be less extreme
No. They are already too far left.
You are delusional and/or politically illiterate
So you want them to get more extreme?
No, they have to move to the center.
The centre is left of the Dems.
No, for example, immigrates. Biden let in a flood of illegal migrants. In contrast, Trump closed the border and is deporting all illegal migrants. A centrist view would be to make it tougher to seek asylum and allow illegal migrants who meet specific criteria to stay in the US and apply to stay.
Biden let in a flood of illegal migrants. In contrast, Trump closed the border and is deporting all illegal migrants.
Source? As everything I saw showed him cracking down hard on immigrants just as hard as Trump.
A centrist view would be to make it tougher to seek asylum
That’s a violation of international law… That’s very far from centrist.
allow illegal migrants who meet specific criteria to stay in the US and apply to stay.
And Dems would have to move left to reach that.
You didn’t ever say what makes the dems too far left? Is it the lip service to trans people? Spending a lot of money? DEI?
And if any of those are the reasons, you’re not only a coward for burying the lede, but you’re also extremely wrong about everything lol
For example, immigration. Biden allowed a flood of illegal migrants to enter the country. A centrist view would make it tougher to seek asylum and permit illegal migrants already in the country to stay if they meet certain criteria and apply for a green card.
Palestinian genocide both they and German govt still eagerly support is centrism between what exactly?
This should be the centrist position. Egypt will be given the West Bank enlarged by land equivalent to the Gaza Strip. In return, Israel will be given the Gaza Strip and land at least 3 times larger than the West Bank in the Sinai Peninsula. Some of the land will be adjacent to water so Israel can build desalination plants. The Sinai is inhospitable, and Egypt doesn’t have the technology to develop it but Israel does. With its new land, Egypt can give it to the Palestinians, make it a state within Egypt, or whatever it wants.
So centrist between Hitler and Himmler i guess.
No, between Hitler and the Communist Party.
That’s ethnic cleansing, as you know. Hardly a centrist position.
Though it’s still less extreme than the current Democratic position.
No, Palestinians would be happy to move to land adjacent to their fellow Palestinians in the West Bank.
Source?
Hardly a centrist position.
Looks like run of the mill centrism to me.
Good point. Though ironically it is actually to the left of the current dems.
