Hello rational, logical thinkers.

Some of you might be losing your minds with all the idiotic takes that get flooded on here about the upcoming election

“Don’t vote for Biden’s genocide because Trump’s genocide will be better. Also, it will definitely not become domestic genocide although he promised to take revenge on his perceived enemies if he wins, which is all democrats and people of color. He’s totally joking even though he’s never joked in his life.”

I am reminded of the 2016 election from the perspective of Reddit. If you were like me during the election, you were pretty confident that Bernie was going to be the Democrat candidate. We all “Felt the Bern” and there was a ton of support in the form of posts and comments saying it was all but certain. Then reality set in that Reddit content is only but a small slice of the actual voting population in the United States and we got Biden instead.

I bring this up because Lemmy is even smaller than reddit. As an example, Transgenders make up 1-2% of the population yet it seems like 20-30% of Lemmy users are trans.

So when you’re feeling existential dread because of these fucking idiots, just remember that it’s a subset of a subset of the US voting population and is not actually mainstream thinking.

Stay critical, be skeptical, try not to fall for the fascist attempts to drain your energy and tire you out.

And yes, vote.

It is not a false dichotomy. It is the electoral reality of a two-party state. The rest of your comment and your expressed intentions don’t matter when the net effect of what you are doing is to undermine Biden. The really ironic part is that by underming Biden, and thereby supporting Trump, if Trump wins you will have helped make Israel less accountable.

It is not a false dichotomy.

Your dichotomy is predicated on it being a zero sum game, which it isn’t. The size of the overall voting population is not fixed. In addition, the electoral college and the existence of swing states mean that not all voters have equal bearing on the results. There are too many confounding variables for you to credibly make the assertion that it’s zero sum. Criticism of genocide is not support for Trump.

I believe that Biden’s actions regarding Gaza will alienate enough voters that he will lose the election if he does not abandon his support for Netanyahu’s genocide. I don’t want Biden to lose, because it would mean Trump. Genocide is also reprehensible and no one should support it, but you’ve made it clear that you don’t believe that.

In any event, you would rather Biden maintain his support for genocide and lose than Biden abandon it and win.
