Has the main pirate community been blocked from accessing lemmy.world again?
lemmy.world is the new reddit. You can join a better instance where things are not blocked.
You should consider migrating away form lemmy.world for piracy discussions/topics
Lemmy.world are assholes thats why and hence now im here. Ffs stop banning communities and defederating let the people choose.
It was attacked by vikings.
Yeah, they blocked us. Saw a post about it a little while ago.
I recommend either moving to another instance with your account or make a second account to be able to see blocked communities.
moving to another instance with your account
How?
starting in lemmy 0.19: (username in top right) > settings > Import/Export Settings > export
Then import on your new community and all of your subscriptions, settings, etc will be migrated over. Comments/posts won’t migrate over, but besides basic user settings followed_communities, saved_posts, saved_comments, blocked_communities, blocked_users, and blocked_instances get copied over. It’s not instantly after it loads. I just tested it and it’s taken about 5 minutes now and it’s still going through my subscriptions (maybe 50/360) and then blocked instances are next and it should be done.
Double checked and it’s done done now about 13 mintues after I made the comment. So maybe 20 minutes to impot a profile with a large number of subscriptions.
Thanks for this!
You can’t move your actual account to another instance but you can create a new account somewhere else. Then there are tools that are supposed to migrate posts and comments but never tried those.
Tune in tomorrow for the next repost about if piracy is blocked on Lemmy.world
Yep. Strongly recommend moving to a different instance. Check sopuli or mander or dbzer0 or slrpnk or literature cafe. Love all those personally.
Lemme is very good, and I am thinking about making a backup account in db0 instance :)
I had one in FMHY but sadly it never took off.
I had one in FMHY but sadly it never took off.
It was my first instance too. Switched to ani.social after it got shut down.
It took off but some things happened which made them close off. Maintaining the lemmy instance was too much for them because the issues were popping out left and right and there was mostly only 1 person that worked on maintaining it (not talking moderation). But honestly what caused the biggest blow for this decision was the fact they lost their .ml instance and were unable to migrate data.
I assume the decision is now final, right?
Looks that way. But then again, it’s always final until it isn’t
Yes, because they finally the mods posted links to illegal content. ( At least the db0 )
And we got a dmca of other illegal content too, so we made this pro active move.
did lemmy world or db0 ever got a dmca request? you will get dmca request only when you link to a particular copyrighted content and not a website
Nope, not directly related to the recent action, the post itself states
We have recently received a takedown request for content not directly related to these communities, but it prompted us to review other piracy related content and communities.
not directly related to these communities
you got your answer here, like i said above unless you let your users link a pirated version of a copyrighted material you are good to go and i think db0 takes care of it since they are more easy and vulnerable to get dmca than other communities.
We got a dmca about such direct linkage, that trigfered us to investigate and remove any possible infringing material.
If that’s the case, the mods of that community really did a bad job. I think you should be transparent about it and link that dmca request (with identifiable info blurred) in your announcements so you guys wont be the bad guys here.
False. Our mods haven’t posted links to anything new or different. Literally nothing has changed about db0’s communitites.
.World has been on-again, off-again banning our communities for months now, completely ineffective administrative structure. Tell them to figure their shit out and apply an actually consistent policy so people who care about freedom can leave the instance.
We are investigate all the piracy/crack communities right now so please bear with us. And we just didnt digged deep into the linked websites. And after few clicks we found out links or “Type ‘gametitlehere somepiracysite.com’” into google and use vpn to hide your illegal actions …
Tl:dr we DONT want any, ANY legal issues even if its “just” links to a wiki that refers to other sites or suspicious activity.
Get off that shitty instance and join lemm.ee, sh.itjust.works or lemmy.dbzer0.com
Yes, and that is their legal prerogative. I understand why, but Lemmy.world is too big for its own good.
If you want pirate content, leave .world and make an account over here at db0. The water’s fine.
It’s programmed by default to be. However it is also possible to modify the program to hide these things so be wary of that.
And if you notice anything fishy, there are a lot of other instances to swim to
