Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had called for a permanent cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas, but had resisted labeling the conflict a genocide.
What went over your heads is that Israel’s leadership doesn’t represent its people anymore. You honestly think anyone could say “no” to Hitler and live? That’s why there was a war, you fought on a battlefield or you died at the hands of a police state.
Sadly, this is no different. Israel right now is trying to use industrialized genocide. The Nazis were the first and for a long time only ones to try to exterminate a human group specifically using industrial genocide - a holocaust.
I am NOT saying Israel as a whole is responsible. I’m sorry if I ever gave that impression. Their current leader, however, is no different than every other Stalin, Mussolini and Trump history has ever had. Do not make the mistake that was made 100 years ago.
People thought Germany’s former opponents were right to offer concessions too. To a degree, they were right, but only if they had done so sooner. By the time someone dangerously hateful got into power, it was too late for it to do anything but embolden a genocidal dictator.
This isn’t about Ukraine or Russia, don’t mistake this for a war. The Hamas are indeed monsters, but the Israeli government and military are peppered heavily with people who firmly believe that they should have exclusive control over that section of the world (the Gaza Strip, I’ll have the grace to not speak on someone else’s behalf about what places a country intends to own beyond clear intent).
In short, I’m trying to say “you realise the horseshoe theory works on ALL authoritarian viewpoints, right?”
I actually may have confused two threads about this topic and forgotten which poster I was trying to respond to. To be clear, all I wanted to say - in short, that I agree with her if she’s arguing in good faith, but that doesn’t justify the above poster hating Israelis and the words “finally, etc.” sounded anti-semetic. Any past online behavior of mine that suggested I feel otherwise is not something I want to influence people to hate a group, and I felt that needed to be pointed out. In the past I’ve made mistakes in my online posts, visible or not, but I never hated anyone for beliefs, only individual actions. My words were not the right ones, I get it. Please stop, I am trying to be unbiased and not “politically correct” because history doesn’t repeat for no reason and yes, there is nothing that is inherent to anyone that prevents them acting like a fascist, no matter what label you can otherwise apply to them. Hypocrisy is a thing, genocide is something every culture is guilty of. It’s not pleasant, but it is fair. We have free will, check your bigotry before it wrecks everything. I will be unsubscribing to this entire community now that I’ve said my peace, please block me if you’re too partisan to realize I am not saying Hamas are not guilty, only that Israel’s government is not free of corruption by hate anymore than Hamas if carpet-bombing hospitals is in their playbook.
This honestly reads like a sarcastic joke, I’m not sure if it just went over everyone’s head here
