This post technically doesn’t go against out rules, aside from not having a question mark, so I will leave it up, but please note that there is no way to verify this person is actually who they say they are, and you should be wary of misinformation online.

So it does go against the rules and we know it’s likely a lie. There is no reason to keep it.

I prefer to exercise positive intent, but you do you negative Nellie.

Sure you can be skeptical in your mind but perhaps engage with the person and try to find more information and then make a judgement.

I’m curious as to what you find so unbelievable. The fact that someone from NK is on the internet or that they found Lemmy. I know for a fact if I was from NK I wouldn’t be able to resist the curiosity of using the internet, consequences be damned.

The thing is - North Korea isn’t known to have accessible internet. There is an intranet, for people very privileged - but that would be monitored and you wouldn’t be on Lemmy.

This is just extremely unlikely, and based on other comments, the Korean looks Google translated.

Hello. I am an ordinary person from North Korea. You don’t need to believe or trust me. I have no gain from your trust or friendship. I just want to share an honest story about everyday life in North Korea.

Many of you may not have the opportunity to meet a North Korean person directly. That is understandable, as most of us have limited access to the internet. My English skills are not very good, so I will speak in Korean and translate it into English.

I am not part of the privileged class. I am an ordinary person like you, with a job that allows me to work and use the internet. Thanks to this internet connection, I can access websites like Lemmy and Reddit. Of course, I also use things like TOR.

It’s okay if you don’t believe me. However, I will do my best to answer any questions you have about my country.

I think this will be the last post I make with this account. I have other accounts on Lemmy, but I won’t disclose them to maintain my anonymity.

Do the prisoners in the torture camps enjoy the fact that they got there because one of their relatives once accidentally spat in the general direction of an official they didn’t see?

            Yeah that sounds a bit… Off…

North Korea has so little food that literally north Koreans are smaller than south Koreans due to malnourishment.

From that, to go claim that you have good jobs and family… I’ll believe the family part, of course, bit good jobs? Nope, not buying it

People in cities have good lives and in the countryside not much !! I am not rich … I am not elite but I live in a city and I have good life .

OP also has internet access, so probably has a fairly well-off bubble. Assuming, again, this is legit. It’s well done if it’s not, though.

    1. What are the trending foods in the DPRK? As in, are there any new foods that became popular after the division that are unique to Northern Korea?

    2. What do you and others do in your free time? What are some common hobbies?

    3. What are some unique websites on the Intranet that people outside the DPRK may find interesting?

    4. Do the people of the DPRK retain hope that one day Korea will be re-unified?

    5. What is the level of study in Marxism-Leninism and the Juche idea within the school system, before specializing? Example, does everyone study Marxism, or is that more for those who specialize?

I dont know food that doesnt exist in south … I know nothing about everything they eat … We dont have trendign food like in the world like MCDONALDS … We like kimchi !! We have restaurants with NK food and food from other countries too …

I like to draw and paint !! I like to exicersise too … Many people have different things to do … My mother dances with other women … They dance in squares in this city . My father likes to make new furniture !! He always makes things like tables and chairs …

The websites in the Intranet are not unique !! Almost all news from newspapers …

We learn about them from children to adult !! We learn marxism leninism and Juche … We are very interested !! Everyone likes it …

Thank you for answering! I love kimchi as well, one day I would love to try Pyongyang style Naengmyeun.

Drawing and painting is very cool! I wish I could do that too, but I am very bad at it…

        I see about intranet, understand.

I am a Marxist-Leninist in the West, so it is interesting to hear about it in the DPRK. It is never taught in school and is mostly from small Communist parties.

I hope one day the sanctions on the DPRK will be lifted!
