New Orleans police officer Rodney Vicknair sexually abused a teen girl he met on the job. He is one of hundreds of officers arrested for child sexual abuse.
Ughhh when will something be done about the police problem in this country!?!? This is a self selected group of people who take on a position of authority with virtually no oversight or consequences to blatantly illegal behaviors, this study just confirms what we have all known. Abusers choose positions that provide access to populations to abuse, and policing specifically, empowers and protects the abusers. ACAB
That’s not true, they work very hard to make sure those priests face no repercussions at all. It’s not exactly easy to constantly transfer priests to new places where nobody knows about their crimes and to make sure their victims stay silent.
In all seriousness though, both the church and police won’t change until an outside force makes them. Fixing the police is going to require a federal group to come in and burn the rot out no matter what it takes and for a permanent group to be established that exists outside any connection to the police force to monitor and punish officers that break laws. The very first and minimal step is going to need to be a removal or at least massive limitation on qualified immunity.
First of all, the entire (not inconsiderable) resources of police unions tend to get mobilized to campaign against politicians advocating for police reform.
Second, you might be surprised how often such politicians either turn out to have been criminals themselves (and conveniently finally get arrested just before the election), or suffer mysterious accidents (that never get investigated).

Nothing is being done about priests diddling kids, so don’t get your hopes up.
