I’ve recently watched a video which seemed credible about the situation on the ground. TL;DW is that we’re in the “1916-esque” part of the war, could go either way. Russia has an advantage in simple to manufacture stuff as long as it can keep refurbishing its Soviet reserves, and they don’t run out, while Western capacities are expected to scale up by the end of the year. Ukraine has an advantage in troop quality, but Russia is not as bad as it was at one point either. There is more to it though, so I do recommend watching the video.
If I recall and have heard correctly, the past two offensives were cut short because of delays in Western equipment support braking the combined arms doctrine of the UAF, while Russians have dug in very deep with insane minefields.
Russian offensives achieved some gains at the cost of a 3:1 manpower loss and the loss of critical assets, a lot of it in the air. That is unsustainable, even for Russia.
I wonder what’s going to be different this time? Maybe the F-16s are now in deployable shape and the crews are trained up?
Ukraine is generally able to out fight the Russians across the board now as opposed to when their only advantage was in basically single combat. Between the logistical defeat of the occupiers in the east (as evidenced by the terror bombings that have been regularly occurring since the new year, lost pressure recovered) the impending deployment of F16 systems and the total inability of RU navy to deal with skim drones, it is a terrible time to be Russian infantry. Ukrainian drone operators are working at the bleeding edge of state of the art and on top of that, the winter freeze is over and the invaders won’t be able to press infantry with armor or cavalry until summer dries things out.

I know what you meant, but it’s still comical to imagine Russia degrading so far through their reserves, they literally start charging lines on horses.
Like a Civ game where you run out of everything but the cheapest units… but still need that speed.
