Social network Bluesky, an alternative to X built on open source technologies, has scored a big win in terms of attracting notable users to its platform.
If people are staying home the fault is with the candidate.
I’m going to try and appeal to whatever reason I hope you may possess by saying that under normal circumstances- you’d be absolutely correct. And that there’d be no sound logic in anyone disagreeing with what you are saying, because definitively, without argument- that is how elections work.
However-
The key term that differentiates your point from being a reasonable one is- UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
It was made VERY clear what we were going to be facing had we not done the bare minimum and just voted- despite how we felt about the quality of the candidate. In short: this was NOT normal circumstances. We were told what was going to happen. And when Someone like that tells you what they intend- you believe them. And those of us that used our vote as a shield to stand agent them, told you, every one of you- what was going to happen if you didn’t help hold the line.
As I said- under normal circumstances, their job absolutely IS to put up a good candidate. I don’t disagree with this one but- But it is OUR job to use our votes in these circumstances to protect our home from being invaded by someone that has told us the extend of damage they intend to inflict upon it.
So, If you consciously chose to abstain from voting because Harris didn’t meet the quota of perfection required to satisfy your expectations-
then you stood aside and helped to allow it this into our house. There really is no other way to look at it.
You’re simply wrong. And to tell you you’re wrong I have literally all of human history to show you. In particular the last election. It doesn’t matter what special circumstances you think exists. You have to appeal to the voter. That’s essential that’s the first step and no other step matters if you don’t take that step. You will lose every time if you forget that step.
You people keep banging your heads against this I don’t know how you don’t get it.
Politics is much deeper than this futile attempt to redirect blame towards activists. It’s funny how you never acknowledge the majority of voters who are apolitical.
You have the gall to talk about circumstances when Democrats have done the bare minimum to respect their voters; they spit on them, erase any form of accountability and responsibility, and the hardline Democrats stay silent.
Fetterman, Sinema, Manchin, Pelosi, Sanders… and those who act as controlled opposition get no defiance. You guys are numb, you get frisky when you protest a little over a coup d’etat. You do not value democracy. You act all righteous without doing shit, it’s depressing.
You never self-reflect whenever you are in hot water, you shift the blame to Republicans. Why? Why don’t you reconcile with what the Democratic Party stands for? Why not acknowledge the mistakes and move towards a better party? Why never acknowledge the ineffectiveness of the Democrats, their lack of spin… I hate doing this, but 100% of the Democratic leadership team were funded by AIPAC in 2022. Why?
Of course, an authoritarian government is the worst thing that can happen to a country, but the people you are spitting on are the ones who have actively given their lives to avoid such situations, while Democrats were joking about them.
Your argument holds no ground when looking at the numbers…and the situation. Act accordingly to the reality, stop focusing on easy target. Give hell to the ones who deserve it.
Additional context just because: “Democratic Party’s favorability at a record low of 29%, with 52% of Democratic-aligned individuals believing the party is heading in the wrong direction”
I put the blame where it lies. with the over ninety million registered voters that didn’t vote.
This is not up for debate.
And that is because, of those ninety million registered voters that didn’t vote- it’s safe to assume that among them lies the difference between Trump destroying democracy from within the Oval Office and Trump rotting behind bars a long distance away from it. I was among those that chose to stop him from destroying democracy- I voted. If you didn’t, do don’t get to say this. Is that virtue signing? I suppose that all comes down to whether or not you consider doing the bare minimum it takes to protect democracy.
And as I said already, this isn’t a boast. This isn’t how I’d want it to be. But, this IS how it is. So… contrary to what seems to make you feel better, there are no virtues to be found here.
I see things for what they are, not what I’d want them to be, and not what makes me feel better about believing.
But if it help you to think I people like me are to blame, I suppose it doesn’t really matter anymore- does it?
Based mod response. I get so sick of purity politics and using that as an excuse to justify letting fascism take control, but people gotta justify their choices somehow…
This has nothing to do with being a mod and everything to do with rational thinking.
I said nothing that I am happy about having had said. I just see the forest for the trees. Accepting the responsibility of facing reality has nothing to do with letting fascism take control.
In fact, if you were paying attention, I voted. Along with all the others that knew what would happen if we didn’t. So in that- WE tried to stop this- did you?
Not sure if you misinterpreted me here friend, but I was agreeing with you.
This has nothing to do with being a mod and everything to do with rational thinking.
Yeah, but seeing them together is what I’m happy about.
Accepting the responsibility of facing reality has nothing to do with letting fascism take control.
I’d disagree, just because the people who refused to see the reality of the situation allowed naked fascism their time behind the wheel again. Plenty of people refuse to see reality how it is and choose to ignore it, sure that ‘things will just work out’ because that’s how it is in media.
In fact, if you were paying attention, I voted. Along with all the others that knew what would happen if we didn’t. So in that- WE tried to stop this- did you?
You’re preaching to the choir, she definitely wasn’t my first choice, but she was the only sane choice available all things considered.
My gripe is not with you, but with people who complain about the politician not being ‘exciting’ enough and using that as an excuse for why they’ve opened the door to removing the rights of myself and my loved ones. The people who feel that perfect isn’t the enemy of good, and that compromise and letting the democrats back in power was absolutely unthinkable (or, as some people told me, they deserved to lose to ‘learn a lesson’).
I’m going to try and appeal to whatever reason I hope you may possess by saying that under normal circumstances- you’d be absolutely correct. And that there’d be no sound logic in anyone disagreeing with what you are saying, because definitively, without argument- that is how elections work.

You’re free to disagree. I’m not here to argue. I tried appealing to reason where there is none.
Enjoy your afternoon.
You try to appeal to Reason by telling me that the thing that just failed will work. Just want you to think about that for a second.
And you tried to use history to prove how your choice to do nothing at all nets positive results.
Think about THAT for a second.
Literally never said that. Way to miss the point.
Reread the thread.
If you’d like to quote where I said otherwise please feel free to do so.

Virtue signaling 101

Fair, I think I took this from a different perspective. Apologies.
