Reddit refugee here. Using Boost for Lemmy on Android.

  1. It is VERY difficult to find interesting communities from within the Boost UX. No “You may be interested in” suggestions are thrown. I used a website to find the Reddit equivalent of some communities. But certain ones not on lemmy instances could not be added using Boost.

  2. No infinite scroll/doom scroll. The number of posts peters out even though I am subscribed to maybe 5 dozen communities.

Using Boost for Lemmy on Android

It’s almost like using proprietary software for an open source project leads to unsatisfactory experiences.

That data section on the Play Store listing is set by me by filling a questionnaire, and not detected or verified by Google, that’s why it says “may”. I can change what’s shown there anytime.

For example, the app does not havethe Android location permission, I just added that because IP in your requests can be used to detect approximate location. The financial info was added because the app has in-app purchases, but that doesn’t mean that your credit card details are shared with third parties.

  • 2 might just be the app you’re using. Or the fact you’re only browsing by what you have subscribed and not everything everywhere. I don’t know if boost even allows you to see everything across all instances; but Liftoff does.

    Thanks for using Boost 🚀🚀😍

No “You may be interested in” suggestions are thrown

Lemmy does not have a “search by topic” feature, but you can open the left side menu, tap communities and browse/search communities by keyword in local/all instances.

    No infinite scroll

That’s a Lemmy thing. The number of posts received depends on the activity of the communities and the sort being used. The app does have infinite scroll, but until the API stops returning more posts.

Those sound more like boost complaints, have you considered trying an alternate app to see if it improves your experience?

I like Memmy well enough when I’m determined to use an app. Still holding out hope that a kbin one materializes.

Doom scrolling works fine, and discoverability is okayish. The search function mostly seems to bring up communities, so that’s kind of what you’d need.
