One of my favorite AI image apps is promoting Elon Musk today. Have uninstalled and left a 1 star review explaining why. Is there a site or someplace where people are keeping track of all these companies that are supporting the new Nazis?

Ai by definition scrapes up data from everywhere left and right for its dataset. If Elon is gonna fuck around a lot during his great replacement tour, there’s gonna be a lot of data in these banks with his name on it

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised if AI based software used advertising created by AI that just grabbed top recent search terms.

But if they can’t keep their software from promoting oppression and hatred, then I have no interest in it, AI or not.

Try prompting “Elon Musk being castrated and beheaded by an angry mob”

    It’s pure magic!

Maybe not that guy specifically, but the Goods Unite Us app is basically a big list of brands and products and which parties they’ve donated to.

I don’t know about other tech companies, but if you run a local AI you at least won’t have to worry about that. You don’t need a high end computer if you only use it sparingly anyway.

Otherwise, stick to open source or privacy friendly tech as much as possible and you’ll avoid him pretty well. Linux software alternatives are definitely not supported by him I’m sure (like Krita, GIMP, and Libre Office).

Email is a bit tricker with the news about Proton, but I think Tuta and Posteo are alright. Again, this could also be something that can be run on a local mini server if you’re interested.

If it’s about the phone, I suggest either a used Pixel with Graphene, used Samsung with /e/ if you have the tech know how, or a Murena’s new phone (if it’s available yet where you are - if not let me know), or if you have the money, a Fairphone 5.

I can also help you out with setting up non-cloud stuff if you want, like security cams if you’re interested.

For smart home automation you can do Home Assistant , which now also has pre-made hardware available (could be useful if you need to control/ automate grow lights, sprinklers, or chicken coop heaters).

I get it. I haven’t even used that app in 3 months or so. (And that was to show some basic examples of my idea to a tattoo artist who was paid to make an original design based off my concept.)

The reality is that AI isn’t going away. So rather than just give up, I’d rather find alternatives to the people that are the worst of a not so great thing.

Plus my question isn’t which AI companies support Musk. I’m looking for a list of anyone that is promoting the hate and oppression that is quickly becoming acceptable.

It’s called having integrity. Just because a thing exists doesn’t mean you have to use it. I can’t do anything to hurt Chick-fil-A, but I can still refuse to eat there in principle. Same applies here.

The issue with AI isn’t the tool, but the ethics of its creation (and the greed of those trying to put it in anything and everything, but that’s another matter), and this is so often lost in these conversations. Like pro-lifers arguing with women’s rights activists. Two completely different concepts being argued past each other. Your use case is exactly the kind of thing that AI could be great for - if it wasn’t made by stealing the work of others.

That out of the way, I think you’re going to have to look for lists of campaign donators, shareholders in companies Musk owns, and as somebody else said, those rolling back DEI programs and the like.

It’ll probably be easier to find lists of which companies oppose the horrors, honestly.

      I’m sure someone has started.

Places like www.ethicalconsumer.org hae been around for a while. Even back in the early 90s I had a book that helped me avoid the worst companies. Just hoping to find something a little more focused on this new rising oppression.

Consider not having an AI app. They’re awful for the environment and are mostly going to be run by Musk simps anyhow.

No. All the major search engines removed most of their boolean features years ago. Without that it’s a lot harder to find what you’re looking for, especially when when you’re trying to learn more about a niche subject (which is the majority of my searches). So sick of trying to search for something specific but can’t because search functions like “intitle” and “+” and “OR” no longer work.

I don’t use AI really. Hell I barely use electricity in my day to day life. (Spent the previous 3 years living off-grid and haven’t fully adjusted to living in a wired home yet.)

I’m more interested in making sure the people who don’t deserve my support don’t get it. I already stopped supporting the meat industry (99% vegetarian for 25+ years). I dropped Nestle back in the 90s as well. I already know which major corporations and brands to avoid.

I just am looking for something that focuses on our current issues.

            gag

Nah bacon doesn’t even smell good anymore. The closest I get to pork is jackfruit lol. Cooked up with BBQ sauce it makes a reasonable pulled pork sandwich replacement. Even my meat eating friends enjoy it.

The other 1% is meat I hunt, fish or raise myself. It’s rather rare exception and happens only a few times a year.

When I was younger on a rare occasion I might try something that a friend or family member raised or hunted, but I’ve found people will lie about that so I usually just pass.

In the last decade (not counting fish & hunting) I’ve known the name of every animal I’ve eaten and I or my partner slaughtered it. Nothing goes to waste. Pelts and skins are kept, organs are fed to the house pets and what we can’t eat or preserve goes to the garden.

I misread that at first and thought it included wild animals.

Which made me think of a moose eating your turnips and you glaring at him and saying “uuuu, Ricky, when I catch you Ricky…”

As for an alternative, set up stable diffusion with a web based frontend on a PC and access remotely. It’ll draw the same power as a videogame for 5-60 seconds per image. At least this way you’re not paying someone to use electricity on your behalf.

I do like this idea to address AI specifically and it’s in my plans once I build myself a better solar setup. I don’t quite produce enough energy to run much beyond a tablet and a cell phone.

My first goals are to get enough power to be able to run HomeAssistant and dedicated media server so I can step further away from streaming platforms. I’m hoping that AI is a bit more refined by the time I’m ready to implement it.

I was listening to an audio book the other day and it mentioned Elon Musk and Kanye West unironically within three sentences of each other. The book was written in 2018, but still pretty cringe. I refunded today, the book was already pretty ick to begin with and those two put it over the top.

It was Book 2 of the Extinction series called Extinction Countdown by James D Prescott. The whole series was available for 1 credit so I thought I gave it a try.

Book 1 was very cliche and over the top, but enjoyable enough. Kinda dumb and predictable but good enough. Pretty short as well, so for a credit per book it would have been too expensive. However Book 2 doubled down on all the bad parts of Book 1 and turned the cringe to 11.

It said: “If even 10% of the predictions made by Elon Musk om Ai are true…” I rolled my eyes so hard I think I hurt myself. Then three sentences later they went on about Kanye West’s new fashion line. So I turned it off for then, thought about it today and refunded. The author probably meant well, but oof.
