I am confused. It seems like a suspended reality to me. Much like his The Apprentice show.

Going to post anti-Trump things since otherwise I’ll be downvoted to the bottom of the thread. I can post a more spicy comment if there’s interest

    • The media will blare every little thing Trump does, collecting clicks and ad revenue, while drowning out the major issues
    • Reform on immigration, especially illegal crossing and TN visas
    • Everyone in the Trump admin will get a lot richer
    • Environmental regulations will be slashed, construction projects will commence and contaminate soil/water
    • Industrial industry will grow but the US won’t beat SE Asia
    • Stonks will go up a lot, inequality will grow, Dems won’t bring a radical leader and might lose 2030
    • The admin will put a heavy focus on the economy but I highly doubt it will be better for people making <300k/year by 2026

This is my opinion, some might be disagreeable but it’s in general what I think will happen

I don’t think there are many Trump supporters here at all, but just people that didn’t want to vote for genocide.

According to my sister in law, who’s not welcome at family gatherings, there’s going to be a great reset. Trump needs to be given total unchecked power so he can save us all from… well that part isn’t clear.

One minute she blames the “globalists” (she means the Jews but won’t overtly admit it), the next minute she blames LGBTQ+ people for… existing… I guess? Then she blames immigrants, black people, China, Democrats, Obama, and on and on.

She views Trump as a savior figure. Not necessarily Jesus, but another savior sent by her god. Her worldview and reasoning for supporting Trump is scattershot and in pieces. She can’t form a single coherent thought without spinning off into other unrelated nonsense. The brain rot is real.

To answer your question, I don’t think even she really knows why she supports Trump and the Republicans. She certainly can’t articulate it to anyone.

That’s going to depend on who you ask. Some of the gripes Trump supporters have are completely legitimate. Things have, in fact, been getting slowly worse for the average American for the last few decades and most of them are aware of this from their own personal circumstances, even if they don’t understand the root causes.

Trump is an idiot but he is smart enough to know that people want to be told what they want to hear and they don’t want a complicated solution, even though the solutions to many of our problems are very complicated. So, that’s what he offers. Simple, horseshit solutions that are vague enough for his supporters to imagine the outcome however they like.

    A few things.

I’m not going to correct their beliefs or point out cruelty/hypocrisy, may feel good but that’s not the point of the question. Especially now, it’s important to understand where folks are coming from.

Broadly speaking, people vote on emotion and how they view their circumstances. Most Americans, in real purchasing terms are less well off than they were during trump’s first presidency. They expect and hope a “businessman” in the office will mean more wealth for them as Americans, financially, did pretty well under trump 1.0

The big policy one is immigration. Wrongly or rightly, they associate stagnant wages with immigration and are also concerned about crime.

An end to federal action on climate change. Among conservatives, these actions are often seen as wage/job killers or at the very least increasing the costs of products or taking away things people like (say, giant gas guzzling trucks/SUVs. Fox occasionally also conspiracy stuff about forced veganism etc.)

Removal of DEI stuff. Any white conservative parent whose kid doesn’t get the job/school spot etc wonders if it was because minority applicants were given more consideration. (Even among Liberals you’ll hear strains of this. As an animator buddy put it to me while applying for grants “sure, I’ll apply but I’m a straight white male, what studio gives a fuck about my story?”)

For the cultural conservatives (think heavily religious) they expect/hope sex education will be limited, avoid talk of gender identities etc. Similar changes, somehow stopping trans female athletes playing in university women’s leagues or some such.

They also seem to expect the deficit to be reduced because “businessmen will run the government like a business, get rid of bloat and get the country not paying more on the interest on its debts than on the military.”

Finally, apparently world leaders respect trump so no more wars etc.

Again, I’m not correcting or advocating for these beliefs. These are just what I understand Conservatives to want/expect.

    suspended reality

You are correct. There is a lot going on under the surface that has yet to see the light of day. I recommend rethinking your concept of political factions and working on learning more about how the real world works. It’s going to be rough.
