Bum Zaslav heard John Cena’s catchphrase is “Can’t See Me” and took it literally
Ironic
Wile E. Coyote was struck down flat by a real life random falling capitalist anvil
Isn’t that poetic justice?
I’ve never heard of this movie before, although I’ve seen the show many times. Hopefully this isn’t a stunt to market the movie when it actually comes out, like one of the devastating hits in the show.
The “show”?
if this were a just universe, we would have a means to PUNISH THEM for this.
Isn’t that the show they specifically promised that they wouldn’t cancel.
More like a “non-binding resolution” to that effect.
Twice
According to a damning report by TheWrap, Warner Bros. executives, including CEO David Zaslav, never watched the full movie before deciding to shelve it again.
God damn, every time I hear something about Zaslav, it makes me hate him more. Seriously, I have not heard a single positive thing about him.
He makes rich people richer through tax schemes. Oh, you said “a good thing.” My bad.
He’ll eventually die one day. There you go!
That’s not a good thing yet.
He will be insulted more before his eventual death, and may even die in an embarrassing fashion.
Looking forward to the day I can pour one out for him, and by “pour one out,” I mean a cup of piss, on his grave.
Wonderful. One of the few upcoming movies I actually want to see released. At what point did Hollywood suddenly decide that it hated money?
The thing is, they also cost money. They will owe residuals to actors and writers. There are also some other motives.
NPR did a story on it: https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1161382179
Ironically, a motivation for studios to use AI actors more in the future.
I miss direct-to-tv or dvd. At least in the cases where a write off made sense studios chose to just release it and make money on the rentals and syndication.
Even music is struggling from the streaming model; music discovery which was handled by stores and radios is much harder nowadays. At least in my opinion.
Honestly, I kinda suspect it’s one of those things they make periodically so they can extend their copyright.
There should be a rule if this isn’t put out for the public then it doesn’t exist therefore no extension
There is. I mean it’s not a law but most contracts that provide rights extensions when exercised usually require that the thing is actually released.
The TVTropes page on Ashcan Copies is a good read if you’re interested.
Yeah, I really wanted to see this too. One of the few things I was looking forward to in 2024.
I don’t know what kind of tax law bullshit means that shelving a multimillion dollar project rather than giving it any sort of release somehow makes you more money, but it’s hard to see it as anything but abuse of the system.
