I wish my parents had the same relaxed approach to parenting: “I don’t get this whole bong thing but my son seems to be having fun.”
“I don’t understand the obsession with murdering pets and small children, but my son seems to be having fun”
He is embracing Rasta culture
I don’t get the hate comments here other than “hurr durr im on a morally superior social media and your daughter isn’t”. Yes, Rednote is a Chinese app with Chinese ideals, proprietary, non-free, foreign telemetry etc etc. but at the end of the day sounds like your daughter’s having fun on an app that’s not too indifferent from TikTok.
Funniest thing is that my daughter never even used Tiktok cause she thinks the content on there is ugly looking. She likes Rednote cause the Chinese content is very pleasant looking - it has a nice visual aesthetic and is curated. Plus she finds the Chinese user base on Rednote better than the international one on Tiktok.
Just take a second to glance at what she posts and what the interactions are. My brother’s friend’s 14 year old daughter who has “absolutely has no social media accounts” actually had a tiktok account with 12k followers who were increasingly pressuring her into making more sexualized content. That girl is now grounded until she qualifies for retirement.
OP doesn’t seem to care about anything besides
OMG 20k FOLLOWER :) :)
Okay that’s just stupid
Why?

True, but for someone like her with only a private Instagram and Facebook account for closest friends and family as social media 20k in a few days is definitely a lot, hahaha.
Not sure if 20k bots is a lot. There’s no easier way to get people to use your platform than showering them in fake followers.
They’re bots just because it’s a Chinese app…? From what I’ve seen Rednote is actually doing the opposite of wanting to attract foreigners. Lots of followers is the exception not the rule.
Also they are about to wall off the non Chinese users so she about to lose that 20k followers and be left in a version of tiktok refugees. If I were you I encourage her to not use that app. But be prepared for her followers to disappear and her being upset.
I’m curious how the situation will develop too. News say the China Central Television supports the influx and inter-national exchange, while some Chinese nationalists are wary of American influence and want measures against it. We’ll live and see. Either way the US Tiktok ban is idiotic.
Rednote isn’t trying to attract foreign users. It’s only blowing up because of the imminent app ban affecting TikTok, same as other apps like Lemon8.
I think believing that any one of these platforms isn’t trying to maximize what they can get out of the TikTok ban is a very naive assumption.
Why do you think a for profit corporation would look for more users thus increasing profits? /s
I agree.

Yes. Viral worthy content.
-Chinese starved of fresh new content
-American starved of attention
We’re British.
As a Canadian who faces this issue from their president, I feel obliged to add this.
Fuck both the US government and Chinese government. Both🤢.
Hear hear. The one on my doorstep may feel more pressing but fuck pooh too.
I just find it funny how Americans are triggered by anything Chinese. The fascism call is coming from inside the house. Meddling in the 2024 election was done internally through the Twitter propaganda machine and TV channels. Try posting anything pro-Mangione especially his manifesto on any mainstream US based social media and then talk to me about censorship.
Chinese government has done nothing to you. USA is the reason our rail, royal mail and maybe healthcare are getting privatised and we left European union. Fuck America, but china has never tried to conquer the world unlike the so called champions of freedoms like Britian, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and America
the US is the reason for the brexit
tankies on .ml are getting more and more delusional
Nah, I can easily say fuck them both cause one is an authoritarian dictatorship & the other one will basically become one any day now while acting like they have the moral high ground somehow. And both have imperialist aspirations at the moment. You’ll never catch me defending authoritarians.
Not anymore
Greetings from the EU! 😘

I am sincerely glad your daughter is having fun, but I have several female friend who are trapped in the toxic spiral of rednote and cannot quit.
From what I read on the Chinese internet, they have a tendency to serve wholesome content to people at first, then switch to toxic content to encourage consumption. As many westerners don’t know, rednote is a shopping-guide app, and they make money from it.
I hope they don’t do it to non-Chinese people and I really hope people like your daughter can continue to have fun wherever they are.
Noted. I know about the shopping guide thing. I’m curious on how the developers will handle this influx. Foreigners are quite limited on the app as of now, they can’t start lives cause you need Chinese legal info, can’t make money & I’m fairly sure you can’t shop. Who knows if those will open up to foreigners as well or be kept China only. I’ve seen Americans complain that their accounts were shadowbanned for no reason but what all of their accounts had in common was that the posts did not fit the local “aesthetic”. I personally think Rednote will not allow the app to be taken over by foreigners.
because theyre female ? (😂
I am not sure, and I didn’t mean to imply that is the cause. I don’t have a lot of male Chinese friend, so I don’t have any data in that department.
However, to be completely frank, I sometimes feel that now Chinese female are subject to much higher social expectation, which are likely to be reflect on social media, thus amplifying their anxiety.
But I certainly have plenty of female friends that doesn’t use rednote, and they are doing fine. (except one on twiter, and she also says that she is pretty anxious about it 🤣
I don’t get most of this social media bullshit. I guess because I just want to live a normal and private life.
OP joined six days ago, and this is the only post and comments they have made.
Plus, how is this a shitpost?
Totally organic content.
"Anything and everything goes. Memes, Jokes, Vents and Banter. " anything is a shitpost you fucking cop
How is when I joined or what posts or comments I make relevant? Shitpost usually means random stuff and this is what this is. You’re insinuating I’m a bot, propagandist or spy? Lol, so mature and not at all weird.
I would argue that there’s a different definition of shitpost which is intentionally low quality post but this thread 100% fits that definition too
You must have a very different experience with social media if you are seriously able to say that with a straight face.
Most moderators use those criteria exactly the same way I have, and many other sites and communities restrict posting privileges on new accounts as an effective measure to curtail spam and astroturfing. The only reason that isn’t being used on Lemmy is a lack of moderator tools to do it.
Additionally, shitpost is not some catch all category. Traditionally shitposts are intentionally false, misleading, or low quality posts done for the sake of humor or to try and elicit an emotional response from others (see: trolling). But fair enough, this particular comm has been becoming a catch all lately.
Anyway. You want to look more natural? Go participate in other comms. Make comments on a wide variety of topics, not just about the latest social media site that’s clamoring to profit off the current situation.
Until then your response amounts to little more than an indignant “nuh uh!” with nothing behind it.
I don’t really care how I look, but thanks for the unrequested advice. If my response amounts to “nuh uh”, then yours is just “well actually!”. You just seem to be very triggered by anything China related (since you also replied to another comment on this post), probably also an American. Which is ironic cause it’s basically pot calling kettle… and the “anything that triggers me is a bot” attitude is so juvenile it’s actually funny. Have a good day!
“That’s very cool honey”
I am on TikTok and moved to little red book too as I speak Chinese. It’s really fun honestly. It’s like a better insta and TikTok combined.
