Vampire Survivors.
I made a Steam discussion thread about the game about how I recall it being tedious, boring and mobile-like. It behaves like a mobile game in every way but the mantra people have praised it for, was that it had no MTX to it. I do believe it was made as a countermeasure to the insurmountable MTX-based games.
But my problem with it isn’t just about whether or not it had MTX, but it still had grinding and addiction tactics to strike people’s dopamine hits. These things are still mobile based and frequently in many mobile games. People do not want games to feel like it’s a job to grind at, they already got IRL jobs to grind in. They don’t need games and this one falls under that.
Thread was instantly removed, which says that the community is too sensitive when someone has some criticism regarding their game. I’m probably banned too but don’t really care.
What gaming community, be it indie or AAA based have you found has quite the oversensitive bunch?
yeah sorry this thread isn’t going to go the way you think because what you’re describing is not them having thin skin, it’s you coming into a community you know nothing about and espousing your opinion as if it is fact. no wonder your thread got removed.
With all of those baseless assumptions, you thought this reply was going to go the way you think?
Idiot.
Talk about thin skin. Someone tells you that you are wrong in a civil manner and your first reaction is to throw an insult?
Please tell me that you missed a huge /s in your posts, I don’t like Poe’s law when is so easily proved.
edit: typo
Calling someone an idiot after having your opinion refuted in a thread about people having thin skin is either some high level satire or proof you have thin skin
I suppose it could be some third thing, but I don’t want to make baseless assumptions
fuck that’s funny, didn’t even think of that
i am not assuming anything, i’m going off of what you said.
I’m not here to answer your question about “other sensitive communities” but to comment on your case of vampire survivors.
I’ve never played the game, never intented to but i’ve heard enough about it and have seen enough of it.
The way you describe your opinion here lets me assume how you’ve written your post over on that community. You simply say "People do not want games to feel like it’s a job […] and while that may be your opinion it’s 1) not everyones opinion and 2) just because the game feels like a job FOR YOU, doesn’t mean that it feels like that for everyone.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a grindy “addictive” game loop if there are not MTX behind it to “harvest” that addiction.
So i think that’s the reason your post got deleted… not because they are “sensitive” but because you think you know better than people and that your opinion is “the truth”
People do not want games to feel like it’s a job […] and while that may be your opinion it’s 1) not everyones opinion and 2) just because the game feels like a job FOR YOU, doesn’t mean that it feels like that for everyone.
Good examples of this is Wurm Online/Unlimited, or OSRS/RS. Personally not too fond of OSRS/RS probably just didn’t get into it at the right time. Wurm though… I’ve got almost 1000hrs into it. When someone asks what I like about it, I can’t even really give a decent answer. The grind is insane, the best way I’ve found to describe it is:
My favourite game where I’m not entirely sure if I’m bored or not. It’s an absolute slog, everything takes forever, and depending on the server, if you’re not online often enough everything you built decays and crumbles away. And yet I keep playing it, it’s a bit zen, I can log in and mine for 2hrs then sculpt for 2hrs and go to bed relaxed.
How many sim games of jobs are there now? Farming, police, road crew, truck driving, pilots, power washing, technically all sports and military games… Im sure I’m missing a bunch.
The Souls games. I really like those games personally, but the community does seem to lose their mind a little anytime someone criticizes their difficulty or suggests something like an easy mode.
Bring up even a little criticism about the controls of Red Dead Redemption 2 and you’re sure to get excuses and insults hurled at you. Definitely nothing helpful.
